Seth Greenberg tweets about ISU Practice

You've watched 4 seasons of Hoiball now.

Have you seen anyone outside of garbage time be a "ball hog"?

Diante Garrett was guilty of this his SR year, his shot selection was horrid but you can't really blame the guy, he had very little help. You could make a case that (especially during the 3 gm losing streak) Deandre Kane got a bit selfish but IMO it was more about being a leader and trying to will his team to wins than being a ball hog.

Ejim seems stronger to me but Hogue jumps higher and has same aggressive mean streak needed at times. If hogues shooting can keep coming like ejim's did there will be a ton of comparisons.

I agree, DH is just not quite as polished as Melvin was but he can hurt teams in the same way. Hogue's game reminds me of Ejim's soph and jr seasons.

This season has to be the most anticipated in ISU school history (sorry Tinsley), if we think the hype is big now, wait until we actually get to see this team play.

There was no 5 game losing streak. There was a 3 game losing streak. We only lost 8 all year.

I don't think DG was a ball hog as much as he was someone following the game plan.

There was one game where I thought that DeAndre was selfish and that was the Kansas game at home. However, the only reason he appeared selfish in that game was because no one else could buy a shot.

I read this as not a good thing? I'm sure I'm over complicating it, but isn't that usually the type of stuff they say about "ball hogs" in a polite way?

It says he attacks the rim well, is good offensively but not so much defensively. Think Clyburn, that is exactly how I would describe him.

The one thing that excites me a lot about Dustin and Naz is that both of them started the season out strong and then hit a lull (a bit of a sophomore slump, if you will) and then finished out the season strong. If they can eliminate most of those lulls, they could have a great season.

Of course, sometimes things just don't go right. Babb never really got completely on track (at least offensively) his senior season.

This is a great point, I think you can make the same comment about DK in the your next sentence. Fred is so liberal with letting his guys shoot that he's telling them there are shots that they basically need to be looking for and taking every time they get the chance. Fred is so good at getting guys in the right spots that they find themselves taking a lot of the shots he's telling them to look for.

Jameel McKay has some Kenneth Faried in him. And it's more than the hair. It's the motor.

Hogue rebounds and makes shots. Don't think he is the low post threat Ej was. Body not big enough.

@ISUMayor32 getting a lot of time and score at the end of each scrimmage session.

Good sign for @CycloneMBB every time Matt Thomas shoots it you expect it to go in.

@GeorgesNiang20 is so versatile. Shoots passes uses his body can drive it from the trail spot high IQ.

Chris Allen was a major ball hog.

Yeah, he was bad to start with. I can't remember what game it was, but he was in the process of shooting us out of it until Hoiberg got in his face during a timeout. It was freaking magic, because after that I think Allen was terrific and the squad really started to gel.

I hope that's not an issue this year, but I'm confident that Fred can address it. To be honest, I bet he doesn't have to because we have Georges though.

The only real difference in terms of inside presence that I can think of would be vertical leap and wingspan, but I don't know how Hogue compares to Ejim in that regard.

My guess is advantage Hogue since he was our jump ball guy, but I would assume they're awfully close

I thought Hoiberg never criticizes his players for taking bad shots...

Dustin and Georges are givens-love seeing the other two.

I assume that you are just being a smart *** and do remember this, but it was the one time in 4 years that I remember Hoiberg just going after a player during a game. It really wasn't that bad, but when compared to what he usually does, it was quite the thing.

Ejim was just so smooth around the basket. And had plays set up for him to hit the "3" as well. While I have alot of confidence in Hogue's role, I agree that he is not equivalent to Mel. But he doesn't have to be either. Hope we see that tenacious will to score like he displayed at the UCONN game, which was commented on that he did so well because UCONN was taking Ejim out of the game, giving Hogue his mismatch.

Pretty sure that was the KU game. I remember Allen missing a shot and not getting back on defense, Fred then calling a timeout and sprinting onto the court to chew out Allen's ***.

It was as mas as I've seen Fred to this day.

When I hear shooters mentality I think of it as a good thing. At the end of games you will need somebody like that like at the end of the UNC game. You know Fred won't let him get carried away
