MLB: ***OFFICIAL 2014 MLB Postseason Thread***

I like it. Allow me?

A's over Royals
Pirates over Giants (Pirates are HOT)

A's over Angels (Angels only lead the season series by one game)
Tigers over Orioles
Cardinals over Dodgers
Nationals over Pirates

A's over Tigers (finally!)
Nationals over Cardinals (payback for 2012)

A's over Nationals

I actually think whichever team from the NL makes it to the World Series wins, and I could see any of them going, but I thought I'd pick the A's to cheer up Buster28. It was kind of funny to watch his increasingly sad posts in the Oakland A's thread over the past couple months.

Well, 1 out of 9 isn't bad...

I think it's cool that the World Series will feature a team that hasn't been there for 29 or 31 years vs a team that's been there 3 of the past 5. Really rooting for the Royals, but will cheer on Baltimore if they win the ALCS.

Giants-Cardinals with STL home field; Royals-Orioles with BAL home field.

If the Cardinals win the NLCS then the fact that STL pitchers allowed all of the runs in the All-Star Game to give the AL home field in the World Series will end up making (some) sense.

  1. Good
  2. Good
  3. Good
  4. Ok I never found this to be an issue
  5. Really bad change.
  6. Ok, but what about a bad throw? It is likely never going to happen, but I still don't like it.

Last night was a perfect example of why you can't make some of these changes.

Kershaw is getting hammered this am on talk radio. Feel bad because Don Mattingly should be taking the heat. Kershaw throws 6 near perfect innings (94 pitches) on 3 days rest. He gives you a 2-0 lead, its time to be the manager and take him out and let the bullpen win/lose the game.

If Donnie Baseball wanted CK to throw 8-9 innings, he should have allowed him his proper rest and throw game 5. Just some awful managing and he is not taking any heat today.

that being said, GO CARDS!!!!!!!!

I agree with you but at the same time I wonder what the deal is with Kershaw in the postseason, especially against the Cardinals. Last year in the NLCS he got rocked by St. Louis in Game 6. This year he got rocked in his first outing. Last night he was doing alright until the 7th and the wheels fell off... maybe that was due to fatigue or maybe it's just that he isn't as good as usual against the Cardinals in the playoffs.

He's also tossed a gem against the Cardinals in a 1-0 loss last year and last night was about as good of an outing that you could ask for on a few days rest. Plus, the Cards have a tendency to rock everyone in the postseason; I think they scored at least 5-6 runs in almost every game they played last October.

Kershaw's issue seems to be that he has those "killer innings" where he gets in a jam and just can't put a stop to things...that's as much on Mattingly and Honeycutt for leaving him in the game when things start going south.

I'm wondering who will be the Giants' Scutaro this year. Everyone has contributed significantly, especially the rookies of late. Happy they are facing St. Louis as the Cards are a much better match-up for SF than the Dodgers. Plus is was pretty great that SF advanced to the NLCS just hours after LA was eliminated.

The problem is, the Dodgers don't have a bullpen to speak of. That was their downfall.

Big Game James may be lucky to get through 5. Lots of guys are squaring him up.
