It's not "time," it's just a dream. The only conferences worth going to are the ones who have no incentive to take us.
I do hope, at the least, as our GOR gets close to expiring, that we at least try to convince the B1G to take us. Because the Big 12 isn't going to last another round. Our best shot of getting out is to start the process, not to sit around and wait for others to jump ship and leave us in the cold.
Terrible odds either way, but I'm convinced ISU's only chance of survival in the Power 5 is a concerted, proactive attempt to leave the Big 12. Perhaps we could convince Kansas and Kansas State to join us as a joint package--an all or nothing offer.
This is looking ahead to 2024. The power football holds could show signs of decline by then. Because I feel not only are we in a bit of a football "bubble," but the sport longterm may be doomed. Younger generations care about it less, kids are starting to play later for fear of injury, high school kids are dying on the field from hits and the concussion research appears more and more damning. We need to invest in all sports (especially basketball) and position ourselves for a future that may see more revenue splitting off to other sports, or even evaporate in general.
