MLB: 2014 Chicago Cubs

Funny how everyone thought this would easily be the worst year of the Epstein era for the Cubs. 9 more wins, and it will be the best. Many were predicting 55 wins for the Cubs this season, and they have a great shot at breaking 70 wins. #progress

45-45 their last 90 games, this team can absolutely contend for a playoff spot next year. The way Wada and Hendricks have pitched since they came up is going to make for a very crowded rotation come spring training, Wood could be pitching for a job then. We'll see how Dubront and Turner do in their auditions over the next few weeks,

Without that atrocious April start, these guys could be a .500 team right now.

This is my thought as well. They are one FA "ace" acquisition away from having a really, really good rotation.

Soler coming up!

Coughlan
Alcantara
Rizzo
Castro
Baez
Soler
Valbuena
Castillo

That looks like a real major league lineup.

JORGE SOLER CALLED UP TO CHICAGO

Cubs top 5 prospect Jorge Soler, who has to play in the majors next year no matter what, will be on the big guys roster starting tomorrow.

Freakish body. Tall and bulk, but not fatty bulk, muscle bulk.

I expect him to be our 7 hitter once things are all said and done, assuming he remains in the organization.

I think he'll hit higher than that. He's expected to hit for average AND power. Not the kind of player you typically put in the 7 hole.

Russell, SS
Castro, 3B/OF
Bryant, 3B/OF
Rizzo, 1B
Baez/Soler, 2B/OF
Baez/Soler, 2B/OF
Alcantara/Castillo, OF/C
Alcantara/Castillo, OF/C

Agreed, he's supposed to have the most advance plate approach of any of the Cubs prospects. Definite middle of the order guy.

When will Scwaber and Russell get called to DSM? Need to get some talent back there, albeit season almost over. Start next season?

He would probably project as a 3 or 5 hole hitter in most organizations, but we've already got one guy in Chicago who fills that role very well (Rizzo) and two more who should in time (Baez and Bryant). Unless he simply doesn't pan out, Soler won't hit lower than 6th as a regular starter once everything sorts itself out over the next 18 months.

I was projecting Schwarber when I said 7 hitter - granted, thats way in the future.

Yes he has great discipline, but he won't be hitting above Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, and Schwarber.

Schwarber likely starts next season either in Kane County (High A) or Tennessee (the Bryant approach) while Russell likely starts in Iowa.

I think Soler is more of a 2 hitter if he ends up as good as some are projecting (solid avg, high OBP)

Only reason Wada isn't getting more attention is because he's 33, but the dude is a big time pitcher.

Our rotation next year really could get us in the playoffs if Tuner turns up. No order:

1. FA
2. Arrieta
3. Wada
4. Hendricks
5. Turner
