Not that most people care in Iowa care.. but I am going to answer your question.

The reason NDSU has not played _ND in football, is becaure our old AD was extremely miffed at that other school. It all started out when NDSU moved to FCS football and UND stayed D-II. There was an agreement, that the two teams would play each still though. NDSU needed these football games during the transition period. Pretty close to the first season of play, _ND decided not to honor their agreement and backed out causing big scheduling issues during our transition.

Fast forward to 4 yrs ago when _ND moved up to FCS, they assumed that the rivalry would start again. NDSU's AD was still miffed from before, so he pretty much told _ND to shove it.

As of now, _ND is a bottom feeder in another confernce. They kind of picked their posion in this aspect also, they could have been in the same conferences as us.. but they chose their own path. They also present no value in scheduling now.. since they insist on a home & home game. In reality, this is correct.. NDSU sold out every game in less than half a day this year. NDSU would rather schedule games against good FCS oppenants or FBS teams (to make money). Evidence would be, last week we scheduled a home and home with Eastern Washington (currently 1 or 2 depending in the polls in FCS).

The day that school (which I beleive will be soon according to some media) _ND agrees to play at NDSU two games, the rivalry may continue. As of now of course, the only dates available for both teams are 2015, 2018, 2019.

There used to be hatred between the schools, and I think it has only grown since all this has taken place. As you can see.. I dispise that schools so much I can't even put their whole name.. that is why it is _ND and there is no U there.

I get the hate that NDSU has for UND but with the ever shifting landscape of college athletics I'm a believer that UND picked the correct route. Sure they are struggling at the FCS level right now but when the switch happened from D2 to 1AA UND was by far the better program at the time and there's nothing stopping that from happening again. The Alerus center is a great facility and with D1 Hockey they have a strong overall athletic program.

The reason I say that UND picked the correct route is that they joined a whole athletics conference. They play every team in their conference in every sport. If there are massive changes coming they may not have to make any changes as they are already in a stable all sport conference. Where as NDSU only plays certain teams in certain sports. Sure there are some overlaps with SDSU, USD, but that's about it. If changes are coming NDSU will be fine and land somewhere but to be upset at UND for picking the more stable route after NDSU already made their change is crazy.

HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA

You are running from a bad FCS team that shares your state and won't play them without a 2 for 1? REALLY? YOU ARE THAT SCARED OF UND IT NEEDS TO BE 2 FOR 1?????

Their hockey accompishments mean 10x what your FCS titles do. Sucks to hear that truth huh? Name some good NFL players you have produced to offset their NHL talent if the two are similar...

PATHETIC MAN HOW CAN YOU THINK ITS OK TO DEMAND 2 FOR 1! You need a 2 for 1 to play a terrible team in the same state where you can make the game a neutral site one effectively if you buy out their season tickets?

What is wrong with your cowardly school and fanbase? How do your run from the Sioux?

Its probably because they play big time hockey and actually have a program that matters while you settle for dominating second teir CFB.

Shameful that you think its OK to demand a 2 for 1 from an instate school. Embarrassing!!!! And you agree with it and admit it. Even the hawkeyes aren't that cowardly and pathetic to demand 2 for 1 from their instate rival.

Wow....

I am not upset at them for doing what they had to do. I am was stating what happened. _ND also moved up the same time as University of South Dakota.. they were going to be partners in everything. USD joined up with fellow D-II members, and realized what was best for them. My true point was they could have been in the same conference, and there would be no need for all the mess behind the scenes of scheduling and trying to get the games played.

Interesting. Thanks for the background info. When I was at Wazzu, Eastern was a college, and a small one at that. Didn't realize they'd busted out of their short-pants status so thoroughly.

Yes, they are #2 in the this years coaches poll, and in some polls they are actually ahead of NDSU and #1. Also, we kind of have a hatred to Eastern Washington.. they knocked us out of the playoffs 4 yrs ago on a crap call in OT in the Semifinals. Had we won that game, more than likely we would be 4-time FCS champions.

To reply Syracuse.. Actually NDSU is demanding two games.. and at this point no return game to _ND. _ND's coach and new AD is really considering it, just to recharge some energy in their fanbase. Their home games have less people at them than most D-III schools now.

I've always respected the Sioux for hockey reasons I will now root for them to climb the FCS ranks in FB because that is really unfair and bush league that they can't get a crack at ND State without giving them 2 for 1.

Lakes why don't you guys comprimise and the Sioux play each other at the Vikings new stadium when it opens? Your 100000 fans can take over Minneapolis and fill the entire thing in green and yellow.:twitcy:

The scheduling "mess" is very small factor in the long term decision for the future of an athletics department. UND got an invite to the Big Sky and they took it. I can about guarantee you if USD and SDSU had the oppurtunity to join all sports conferences they would have as well. UND ended up in a much better all around conference and I am guessing that USD wishes they would have ended up there as well.

Mens basketball is different and ISU and EIU owe nothing to Drake and UNI. They have no reason to ever play those schools in their barns ever. Doing a 2 for 1 for them is a favor. Again its a favor if EIU or ISU ever go to the Knapp Center and would absolutely take 2 or 3 home games in return for it to happen. Just because it happened in the past when neutral site games weren't so prevalent and didn't take up as many dates doesn't mean Hoiberg or McCaffrey should ever agree to play games at a mid majors barn. Would be a slap in the face of season ticket holders to play @ Drake.

When that stupid Big 4 thing expires though I would suggest only playing Drake at Wells Fargo every 2-3 years and not bothering bringing them to Ames. Make tickets really cheap and make it on a Saturday. I'd offer UNI the same thing the occasional one off game there.

I will not argue.. but the facts are USD did have a big sky invite. They were supposed to be _ND's travel partner. They shunned the big sky.

"A last-minute change of heart is keeping the University of South Dakota out of the Big Sky Conference and casting a shadow on its super-conference plans. On Monday it was announced that Southern Utah and North Dakota had accepted invitations to join the Big Sky, with South Dakota's addition only a formality.

It turned out to be much more.

Big Sky commissioner Doug Fulerton confirmed late Wednesday night that South Dakota instead accepted an 11th-hour invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference."

source.. http://missoulian.com/sports/colleg...cle_8da06c90-e7cf-11df-988e-001cc4c03286.html

I dont think _ND would have gotten in if the Big Sky would have known that USD was not joining. Now _ND is along ways away from anyone.. closest places is Montana.. not cheap for the budgets.

I am sure there are better sources.. first one that popped up on bing.. now I gotta get to work.
