Do a higher percentage of recruits in the top 100 succeed than from out of it? Absolutely.
Give me two dice and I will guess that a 7 comes up every time, you can take whatever other number you want. Over time, the odds play out the same way.
Just because a player is in the top 100 doesn't guarantee anything, but it does make it more likely that they will succeed.
Also, the act of posting an unheralded player who has succeeded as a boost to an an opinion arguing that being highly ranked nationally is not correlated to success is possibly the number one thing I hate the most in all of the message board world.

It doesn't mean that their talent fits the positional need that Hoiberg wants tho.
I didn't post just some player that succeeded, I posted the best player in the country and one of the best scorers of all time.
i agree with everything you said, I was just making the example that the top 100 isn't the best measuring stick as to how good players are compared to other players. It's all about systems. If Player X doesn't fit in Fred's system (that's for Fred to decide) then he won't be good here. Regardless if he's #1 or #1000.
Here's the only thing I was responding to:

Make a better argument than that or be more articulate or explicit.
Sigh. First, the players more likely to fit into Fred's playing style are the ones who will be recruited to ISU. Second, if we get the most talented player we can get, regardless of position, Fred has shown he will adapt the playing style to the player's strengths.
There's a lot of players that would be higher than Doug if they decided to stay four years. Just imagine if Durant, James, Rose, Love, or any of those all stars decided to stay all four years. If Doug would have been a top 10 pick any of those years he would have gone.

I'm just thinking about how it's been a year and a half since our last high school commit. I kinda want to know if that's some kind of a major conference record. Think about it. Not one player in the year 2013. Not saying it's bad because I can't complain about who we've got.
It annoys me to no end that people say that just because Ejim was a major talent and wasn't a top 150 recruit that ratings don't mean anything because of one example or using another player that was better than his high school ratings indicate. Teams like Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, MSU, Florida, etc. constantly bring in top tier talent which is a good reason on why they're so good every year. If you guys don't care about ratings and think they're useless, you're as clueless as they come.
Back to the argument about Turner: I think he fits Fred's mold perfectly. He's a 6'-7" wing who can shoot very well and crashes the boards. A solid jump shot and being fast and athletic is a guy that Fred wants. If any of you think Turner isn't a player that would fit in Fred's system, you're plain ignorant. He has a very similar game to Abdel Nader and Fred went after that guy very hard. Hopefully Fred and staff don't back off of him unless he flat out says he doesn't want to come to ISU. He would make a great fit on our roster. Plus, with how few high school signees we've had recently, you take him if he wants to commit early.
