Olajuwon at $1 is a joke right?

No kidding. At $1 you can't pick anybody else. Not just a great shot blocker but terrific all around defender, best moves and footwork of any center all time. Wasn't a great FT shooter but way better than Shaquille or Wilt.

This sentiment always baffles me and usually gets stated several times in a thread like this. There is no argument from me that he is the greatest of all time. But to think he is so much better than any of the other all time greats that it wouldn't matter who is on his team or the other team is laughable. I can only imagine the hyperbole that would have resulted if Russell would have won 11 in a 13 years career in the modern media/advertisement age.

With the scenario that we have to spend $15 how is that laughable? Jordan's the biggest bargain on the board, he should be $7 at least.

I go back to the Floyd era, so my rankings are going to be a little more approximate, but here is the basics of what I came up with in my head and with a little help from the statistics:

(1)
---
Jamaal Tinsley $5
DeAndre Kane $4
Diante Garrett $3
Will Blalock $2
Mike Taylor $1

(2)/(3) choose two
---
Jeff Grayer $5
Barry Stevens $5
Gary Thompson $4
Fred Hoiberg $4
Jeff Hornacek $3
Dedric Willoughby $3
Chris Babb $2
Curtis Stinson $2
Tyrus McGee $1
Marquis Gilstrap $1

(4)
---
Marcus Fizer $5
Royce White $4
Melvin Ejim $3
Craig Brackins $2
Jackson Vroman $1

(5)
---
Zaid Abdul-Aziz $5
Victor Alexander $4
Kelvin Cato $3
Loren Meyer $2
Paul Shirley $1

Feel free to adjust. This was a first stab at it. We had a ton of big guards/small forwards with really good careers, but frankly more guards than SFs, so I thought to combine the category, given that is less and less of a distinction in modern basketball.

15$? Give me...

Blalock $2
McGee $1
Hoiberg $4
Fizer $5
Cato $3

Good luck guarding Hoiberg and McGee and Fizer.

Jordan's the GOAT but on an all star team chemistry wise I'm not sure it's the best team.

Build around Jordan and I'd go Stockton Jordan Pippen Barkley Shaq

To say there's no way his team loses to a lineup, that goes Magic, Kobe, Bird, Malone and Russell IS laughable. Jordan is the greatest ever, but he's not SO much better that the aforementioned lineup couldn't beat him.

Putting words in my mouth? Because I didn't say that. Let's put it this way, put it into an 82 game season, put MJ on the team and use the remaining budget to plug in the best of the rest, and they'd be the favorite to be the #1 overall seed IMO. Obviously assuming that Jordan and everyone else is all in their prime.

If that was the statement you would have made I wouldn't have picked your post to quote and instead would have used another post from someone else. The point is not that he shouldn't be picked or isn't a relative value at 5. The point is that he is not so much better than all of the other all time greats that nothing else matters. "Any team that has Jordan would win against whoever."

Barkley ($4)

I like this one too. Barkley was extremely efficient and was probably the best offensive rebounder of that group. I think the 3 musts in this draft would be taking Magic or Big O, Jordan, and Hakeem or Shaq.

Apparently I wasn't.

Would Jordan's team be the favorite? Absolutely. That's just not the way you phrased it originally.

i was gonna take stockton but with taking pippen i wanted a better offensive player. i like pippen as he can guard their best player while you let mj do his thing on offense.

Oh so you assumed that I thought Jordan's team would go 82-0 and then sweep through the playoffs for a championship?

Lebron at point
MJ
Pippen
KG
Hakeem
$13 -took the last two to the nudey bar.
IMO Hakeem was the best all around center. Shaq was more dominant in the paint but couldn't shoot or run the floor. Lebron would be an awesome point and facilitator. They could score inside and out, run the break and are all great defenders except KG. If I have to take a PG then I swap out Pippen for Isaiah.

No, but we were never talking about these teams playing an 82-game season, were we? One game, best of 3/5/7, the gap still isn't so big that it's practically a given that Jordan's team wins.

KG was a great defensive player. Won a DPOY and has been on 9 NBA All Defense first teams.

One game anything can happen. But best of 7 series, I'd take that bet every time. You pick your top 5, and I pick my top 4 + Jordan with the 15 dollar budget.

PG - Magic Johnson ($5)
SG - Michael Jordan ($5)
SF - Scottie Pippen ($1)
PF - Tim Duncan ($3)
C - Hakeem Olajuwon ($1)

Hakeem and Pippen are steals at $1, especially Hakeem.
