Hypothetically speaking, of course:

I understand the television geography behind an eastward motivated expansion, but please help me identify an available candidate more attractive than BYU. She's like, the only girl left. & it's getting late.

Why does the Big XII need to expand? Particularly if this new legislation to get rid of the 12 team conference for a FB championship rule gets axed?.

That would seem to really be the lone reason. Particularly with the dearth of regional options.

I say the Big 12 goes bold and drafts, er, adds Manchester City and Manchester United. Not because they're the best, but because they speak a rudimentary form of English and built in rivalry.

That sounds more like a big 10 move....makes no sense, other than tv sets, adds no good competition, spreads the footprint out wider and wider.

I was just thinking that the big 12 needs another small private school in the state of Texas.

I for one would enjoy a second small religious school that pulls top 10 basketball recruiting classes to play in an empty arena. TCU can get there but it will take time, SMU is primed to join Baylor right now.

I would not say that, the Big 12 may have no choice. We will see how the playoff works out without the CCG. If the Big 12 gets left out due to only 12 games vs 13, expansion will happen, OU AD has stated as much already.

The NCAA will drop their "you have to have 12 teams to have a CCG" rule before the Big 12 expands.

Let's just cut straight to it and go to 14 teams and add:

Florida State
Virginia Tech
Clemson
Georgia Tech

Obviously if those 4 schools wanted to leave the ACC for the Big 12 we would take them all in a heart beat. Here's the problem - outside of internet speculation, has there been any credible information that ANY of them are wanting to do this?

It was really picking up steam that FSU and Clemson were going to the Big 12..I think even more so for FSU. I remember ESPN even talked about it. All in all it could have been FSU all along starting the rumors to get what they want from the ACC.

If you look at quotes from officials at both schools, I believe there was a lot of credibility to FSU and Clemson to the Big 12. Deloss' pining for Notre Dame basically killed it though.

The ten team conference model is superior to any other if a playoff system were to require a 9 game conference schedule. If the trend for eight games holds, 12 is an option--but generally leads to a weaker schedule since the other game scheduled is usually Cupcake State.

There just isn't any easy way to manage a 14 or 16 team "conference". I think conferences that expand beyond 12 generally have something else in mind, because calling those arrangements conferences is sort of a stretch when you play a team once at home every six to eight years.

The Clemson and FSU ADs both expressed frustration with the widening revenue gap between ACC and other conferences, namely the SEC who recruits the same turf as the ACC. In particular, the ex-Clemson AD was very vocal about them exploring their options, including the B12. However, the Clemson and FSU presidents were against any moves and the ACC ended up getting ND as a partial member and signing a GOR which nixes any ACC school leaving anytime soon. Deloss' pining for ND didn't kill B12 expansion, quit reading the BS from the WVU "sources".
