That and maybe what Monte Morris showed this year, The guy was an absolute stud, so I don't see more than 7-10 mpg for 3 years for a back-up PG. We already have Custer, another traditional prototypical PG. With the success that Diante and DeAndre had as bigger PG's- maybe they would prefer to go that direction with this class. Fred is learning as a coach and he is not going to settle for finishing 4th in the Big 12. To consistently beat teams like KU and make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament- size matters. Bigger wings and post players who can stretch defenses ala Niang, but also guys who can guard the basket.
I am counting on Monte staying 4 years. Hes really good but not an elite playmaker which the nba is looking for in Point guards.
No, but pass first 6'2" PG typically aren't lottery picks. The earliest Morris would jump to the NBA is after his junior year and IMO even that is unlikely. I stilll think the staff is looking to get a bigger PG vs. a player in the Morris/Custer mode. I think Fred likes the mismatches that a bigger PG causes, plus if the offense breaks down it's nice to have a combo:guard who can finish in the paint.
Just because he was a pass point PG last year doesn't mean he'll be one in the future. I expect his offensive game to pick up significantly this year. You saw what he was capable of doing when Niang went out and scored 15 points against UNC and UConn.
Players often leave before they are ready or likely to get drafted. Hopefully we get to watch MM for 3 more years, but you never know.
Monte really wants to play in the NBA. If he ever shows up on some mock draft his junior year, he's gone
I might. I remember reading an article when he was in high school with him saying he wants to turn pro after his sophomore season.
If he goes pro next year id be thrilled. Because its going to take a very big year with a huge jump in scoring to get on the board . if he can have that type of season with our talent, were going a long ways. Frankly I don't see him having that type of season. He was never truely a scorer in HS even
I'd like to turn pro right now, doesn't mean it's going to happen unfortunately.
Wasn't he actually more of a scoring PG in HS compared to what we saw this past year? I thought he averaged something like 20+pts and 3-4 assists.
But I agree; I think his ISU career is most likely 3-4 years depending on how things pan out.
