This. That was disgusting. I have so much respect for the cops keeping their cool in that situation. Throwing glass bottles at police officers? WTF?! We are lucky none of them are seriously injured as well.
I was on the fence all morning, but I'm not anymore. Shut down VEISHEA.
Anyone who thinks its over is just overreacting. It'll be cancelled, but it's not over. You don't end a long *** tradition because some young drunk ****s decided to be **** ups.
Actually, at that point, the police had ordered a dispersal of the crowd, which is completely within their authority if they believe that the crowd of people posed a threat to the safety of those involved.
So, by standing there, they were failing to comply.
Nothing good comes out of even being a spectator to those types of things. They are ambassadors for our university and whether they or you agree, they should be held to a higher standard when it comes to even being around these types of things. If they were blocks away watching from afar, that's one thing - if they were by the big crowd but in the back, that's still bad in my mind.
You also have to remember that our MBB team is the most visible and recognizable asset of our university and if they're even close to the action, simply their presence can (in the mind of the rioters) lend credence to their actions.
Mob mentality. You are adding fuel to the flame by being there. You never see a 20 man riot for a reason. The more innocent bystanders the better, because the cops have a harder time targeting the real problems in the crowd.
It's a lose/lose situation. The only winning move is not to play. I.E. stay the **** away from riots.

Too bad the Ames or University Police don't have a few officers on mounted horses. There are reasons that major cities like NYC and LA still have mounted patrols. Nothing better to control a crowd of morons like these groups.

I would suspend any players there for a game. It will be little sisters of the poor anyway. Like it or not these guys are role models to the community and they screwed up.
Unfortunately - anyone who remained there is not innocent. Even the people who stuck around just to watch are complicit. Sure - the actual number of trouble makers may have been a few dozen, although the video looks like many, many more. But even if you're just standing there - you are part of the problem for the police.
I just don't get this mentality. Have to act like a jack-waggon just because you can. Unbelievable.
I was at ISU when there were two riots. '92 and '94 (although I don't really recall '94). So I'm including myself in this (didn't participate - wasn't anywhere near them). But somebody needs to explain to me how we had some 70 years of VEISHEAwith no problems and in the last 25 we've had some 8-10 sets of riots?
There is most certainly a decay in our society. Last night proved it even more. And look about some of the threads on this board. The fact that students and Alum actually take PRIDE in the riots is maddening. Wake up this morning and some 20+ kids are stabbed at a high school in PA. Riots at UConn for winning, AZ for losing...

That is how the world works my friend. Your remarks are the same ones I remember people making 10 years ago and 10 years before that when there were riots. I'm pretty sure it's Game Over.
Some of it is that it's more visible now. Twitter/Facebook/Youtube/etc. all cause it to spread and spread quickly.
Exactly! Earlier in the thread I posted that...DO NOT blame the cops. Their job is to try to maintain order and keep people/property safe. Had they NOT been there (i.e. "ah, kids will be kids") then people would be all over them for failing to do their job.
I know it's WAY off topic, but kinda like when that kid stole his dad's truck and evaded the police and got shot. Seemed all the armchair qbs made it out to be, somehow, the polices fault.
