Recruit Lists v2.0

I agree that Iowa State is starting at a disadvantage as we don't have a long storied tradition and we're located in a small, rural state that produces little big time talent. Outside of the Ames High Class of 2010 or whatever it was of course.

I'm not saying ISU staff can't recruit. Only that considering the recent, continuing success we've had, and the universal respect Hoiberg has, I expect our HS recruiting to continue to get better. And its likely we have to, as it's probably going to get harder and harder to land those top transfers as more schools look hard in that area.

I suppose what gets me is that ISU is more successful in the transfer market than HS recruiting. We get AA caliber transfers, but aren't there yet with HS recruiting. Why that is I don't understand.

The HS recruiting has been great based on the status of the program nationally. As the program continues to rise so will the ability to land better and better recruits. Simple. Making the tournament two years in a row as a lower seed doesn't really cause top 25 talent to want to flock to Ames.

Esa is planning a visit to Iowa.

"One of the top prospects on the rise in the Midwest in the Class of 2015 is Esa Ahmad, a 6-foot-7 forward from Cleveland Ohio. Rivals.com has the skilled forward ranked in the Top 100 and that ranking could be poised to rise even further this spring based on his play this past weekend at the NY2LA Swish & Dish AAU event in Wisconsin."

Apples and oranges. I'm not sure how many 4-5*'s there are within a 4 hour drive, but I bet its 15-fold compared to Ames.

It doesn't matter how many good players are close. If you continually show the program is legit then you will get good players.
Deandre Daniels is from California
Giffey from Germany
Boatright is from Illinois
Nolan is from Wisconsin
Brimah is from Ghana

The school becomes a destination for elite players by winning.

Law of averages. None of that changes the fact that it is more likely a prospect plays close to home than far away when there is a choice.

Just because something is possible doesn't mean it's likely.

Shabazz Napier is from Massachusetts. Pretty important?

What I am saying is win and the recruits will come regardless of where your city is or how crappy it is. Ames has nothing to do with getting recruits.

Agree it has 'something' to do with it. And for most players, its not like ISU is a household name.....yet.

Not just that. NJCAA Div. II is called Div. II for a reason. That and he is tiny, just like those other 2 guys I mentioned.

My friend's son played Div II juco and just from the teams he played 6 guys went high level Division 1. One of Auburn's pg's I believe played at Ellsworth.

I agrree on the next kj blueford. Cleanthony had a bunch of schools looking at him. This guy does not.

I didn't know where to put this exactly but I guess this thread will do.

@GoodmanESPN: California has targeted Xavier coach Chris Mack, sources confirmed to ESPN. Story coming.

If Mack leaves for Cal that could open up JP Macura and Sean O'Mara's recruitment again. They were both once 2014 ISU targets.
