Sprint 4G LTE finally in Cedar Rapids

Sprint calls were awful the last 2 weeks east of DSM on I 80, much better now, no 4G or LTE yet. Hopefully soon as they said they were upgrading.

We had that in Cedar Rapids too when they were changing out all their equipment, I called customer service and complained about the crappy service and they gave me $25 off a month for 4 months.

You should notice greatly improved 3g service as soon as they switch out equipment.

Yea, and that's why I'm fed up with Verizon & will most likely switch. We've been customers for > 10 years, but getting rid of unlimited/eliminating grandfathered plans was the last straw.
Billing FAQs | Verizon Wireless

I don't know if they can do it with just like 2 lines or not, just a thought. And yes, you'd have to pay full price for phones to retain unlimited data. In any case, the unlimited data plans do sell for a couple hundred bucks these days, so someone's valuing them.

Hmmm...any other opinions on Sprint's coverage? They BOGO HTC One's right now, which would be perfect. We can't get new (discounted) phone's through Verizon without losing unlimited data.

I have had Sprint for 10 years and the only coverage issues I have had have been with data in rural areas. I have never had coverage issues in the Des Moines metro.

Holy crap just checked my verizon LTE in North Central IA and got 8.6 download and 4.9 upload in the house, that **** is smoking fast!!!!

It is likely bloated because I forced my phone to update towers as soon as I heard they were live. There were likely not many people connected.

Only on the SW side of CR yesterday...could not get 4G/LTE reception anywhere...not yet this morning either. What parts of CR has this service already? Same as yesterday?

Just a tower near 6th street and 30 and 32nd street and center point road. Have you updated you profile and PRL yet to force it to look for new towers?

I had Sprint for 10+ years as well, and never had any issues coverage wise, but data was too slow for my liking. I had a pretty good deal set up, but was tired of being charged an extra $10/month for "premium data / smart phone" when DSM did not have 4G and horrible 3G. Made the switch to T-Mobile and am loving the data speed in DSM, but the second we leave the city it goes to crap. We'll probably go back to Sprint or Virgin once Sprint gets 4G in DSM.

Only 2 towers so far but rest will be coming soon. Des Moines and Ames are about a month behind Eastern Iowa.

Loving the download speeds while they last though.

I am shocked to see Sprint beat AT&T to have LTE in the area. Sprint now has more nation wide LTE than AT&T does.

Where do you see that? I thought DSM wasn't until early-mid 2014

PRL updates and device refreshes shouldn't be required for you to access LTE as the sites begin to come on air. As build out is occurring sites will come up and down, but as long as they are turned on your device will connect. If you are near a tower that has 4G and your phone isn't connecting, a quick cycle of airplane mode will force the device to setup a new data registration and it will catch the LTE if it is available.

Do the sponsor threads have info on proposed new tower locations?

They have information on all building permits pulled by sprint. Pretty sure that is where most of the information about the tower upgrades is coming from. Then some members go out and photo graph the sites to show people progress.

I was getting 4G on the SW side still today was not able to pick up anything on the NE side or downtown.

From What is a PRL? - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates

On some 4G LTE chipsets such as Qualcomm, the PRL determines if LTE is enabled for the geographic region you are in.

Thus, it would seem that if you own such a phone, and you have an outdated PRL, your phone may not use LTE if it is available.

Hmmm...I checked my phone a lot yesterday and got nothing. HTC One. Updated all that stuff...still not getting anything 4G/LTE...oh well...just sit and wait I guess.

You should check your mobile data settings and see if it is set to cdma only or cdma/lte

I was getting 4G today from both active tower locations
