So he didn't play for us over UK? Special case or not, he played for Fred and had an offer from UK. And again, UK was interested in Georges after he was signed with us.

Regardless, fine, don't count UK if you don't want. The point still stands, Fred is not afraid of recruiting against anyone and has beat out big name programs in the past.
I would love for us to pull players over UK, heck, to take one from KU would be great. I imagine it will happen in the next 3 years

After watching highlights of Monte Morris's senior season at Beecher High School, he definitely looked impressive.

I think he is an extremely gifted young man, but he is going to play Division one basketball this season,
and before we crown Morris as a starter with a lot of minutes, first let him showcase these skills on our stage. He definitely has the potential, but what if he is a bust like Chris Colvin was. (not saying that he WILL be)

Is Custer going to see a lot of minutes? Feels like this guy made an early commitment and our guard play is so heavy. Worried he doesn't realize it and will likely want to transfer after a year or two. While I don't know too terribly much about him, I know he's going to be behind Morris his first three years and Morris appears to be better and will get a ton of minutes. What does everyone else think?

Chris Colvin was a bust because of Greg McDoormat. Diante Garrett was a bust his first three years (he played well, but obviously nowhere near his senior year) because of McDoormat. If Morris is that good, we will know because Fred knows how to use guards to their full ability, unlike the worst ISU basketball coach ever.

I am no McDermott apologist--I am far from it. However, I don't believe it is appropriate to lay the blame at his door concerning Colvin. Colvin did not exactly light it up after transferring. I suppose you could argue that he happened to be coached by two ineffective coaches, but I think his failure to meet expectations has a lot to do with his personal attributes.

Wonder where we stand. Maybe September will answer some questions for us considering he said this...

Q: You say playing with Vaughn wouldn’t be a problem if you both picked Minnesota. What about playing with another 2014 shooting guard somewhere else?
A: Every school that I look at, I just try to figure out if there are other wings that have committed, have high interest or are already there. I just have to pay attention. I don’t want to sit at a school for two years and not play. I have to be smart and look at the school because I don’t want to go somewhere where there’s a kid at the same position as me in the 2014 class. Two kids at one position, I don’t think would work out too well.

I doubt that would be an issue at this time. Vaughn won't be signing anywhere until the Spring and J.P won't eliminate schools who have offered RV... At worst if Vaughn was to sign with Fred Macura could re-open his recruitment. Or he could RS a year and if RV is a one an done problem solved.

Plus in the same article he was quoted with this. (I think ISU is under serious consideration)

Q: Iowa State is closer to home than a lot of the high-major schools recruiting you. How do you like the Cyclones?
A: I’ve watched them a ton, and I love the way they play. They have a lot of freedom to shoot the ball. I just think (Iowa State coach Fred) Hoiberg would help me out a lot. He’s been in my shoes and gone through everything I have. They have a great coaching staff. I think they would develop me as a player and help me a ton.

It would be great to land him to go along with Custer. Then we could turn our attention to somehow, someway landing an impact big or two. Obviously RV would still be a priority, but JP would take a lot of pressure off of our backcourt.

With Matt and SDW already here and only one class ahead he may see a bit of a problem getting on the floor early. Hard to say.

But he will know that we're more than happy starting two shooting guards, which equates to 70+ min of game time for his position. So we have that going for us.

Also, I can't imagine JP being scared of a redshirt (SDW) or a guy like Naz being in front of him. Thomas makes sense because he's been hyped up a bit, but at the end of the day JP and Thomas have played the exact same amount of D1 minutes. Not to mention they both could start at the same time.

SDW was ranked around the 125th recruit, about the exact same as JP is this year, and SDW would have two years of experience on him. Not saying he couldn't be better, but he should not expect to get more minutes than quality guards two years older than him.

Yeah. Somebody made too much of his redshirt status. That surely doesn't mean he can't play. SDW will be very good.

edit: apparently redshirts and walk-ons are not the same thing. Wake up, brain.

My point is, unless he's planning on playing at a mid-major, he's going to have to face some decent competition. He's probably not going to be intimidated by the #125th recruit from two years ago if he's worth anything.
