First Car?

I drove a white 1985 Dodge Ram 50 through high school. It was on engine #2 (4-cylinders, 2.0 liters, baby!) and transmission #2 (which we replaced shortly after we bought it--changing it to a 5-speed from a 4-speed). Didn't have power steering, a/c, or FM. It had what I referred to as the "Hansel and Gretel" feature, in that it left little pieces of itself behind wherever it went so I could find my way home.
Also, the passenger had "sunk" a little bit so that the latch didn't quite work right, and the door held itself closed by friction. If I took corners too fast (and believe me, I did) it would swing open--at least in summer. In winter, the door usually froze shut so any passengers had to climb in from the driver door.
For all that, the thing was still ridiculously fun to drive and I loved it while I had it.

My first wheels was a 1972 Blue Chevy LUV pickup with a white topper and Yosemite Sam "Back Off" rear mudflaps! I was beyond cool!
My second car was a '76 LTD. White over red with the 390. But my first was a 1972 Ford LTD with a 429 4-barrel. Drank gas like crazy, but gas was only 30 cents at the time. Had a hotel room for a back seat. Great high school car!
I was the proud owner of a 1978 AMC Gremlin - yeah, thanks dad! No Kidding! It had a 1.4L and was a complete dog.
My first motorcycle had more horsepower than that car did.
Went to D.M. from my hometown just south of Mason City one time and thought I was going to have to get out and push it up this one big hill on Hwy 65! The transmission was so bad that I checked the gas and oil and filled the tranny fluid daily. Currently this car has rusting nicely in it's retirement home since about 1984...
The only good thing about that car was that I had a killer sound system and could be heard pretty clear from about 6 blocks away.

You are right on there. I think I had more fun in that hockey puck than the camaro. Who cares if you spin into a snow bank...it'll bounce.

Can definitely vouch for LTDs being nearly indestructible. A few of my friends had them. They would take them in and out of ditches, through corn fields in the winter to TRY to hit deer, and god knows where else. A couple had custom spray paint jobs. One buddy even cut the top off with a sawzall to make a convertible. Good times in those boats.

1968 MBG, British Racing Green with wire wheels. Most unreliable POS car I have ever owned but it was also just a really freakin’ cool ride to have back in 1971.
