***OFFICAL: I BOOKED MY TRIP THREAD***

What are the best bars to tailgate in before the game and what time will they open? Saw something that the "Dugout" opens two hours before game time. We are going to need a littttle more time than that to get fueled up.

Hello,

One very useful website to help navigate NYC via public transportation is hopstop.com. You can input any two addresses or points of interest in NYC, as well as the day and time of your planned trip, and the site will provide several options via public transportation.

It seems that a popular question is "how do I get from LGA to Yankee Stadium?"

http://hopstop.com/search

Assuming your hotel is nearby LGA and offers a free shuttle to the airport, you can simply take the M60 bus to 125th Street and then take the 4 Uptown / the Bronx to YS. If you wanted to head into Manhattan, you would take the 4 Downtown and be at Grand Central Station in about 20 minutes or so.

Many NY area local have already offered terrific advice. I'm happy to answer questions as well. I always get a kick out of seeing tourists in the city I've called home for more than a decade.

Enjoy your trip.

There are a bunch of sports bars around the stadium. We usually go to Stan's. None are particularly great but they get the job done.

Usually when we go to Yankee games we drink in Manhattan first, but if it's a new experience probably don't want to navigate the subway for the first time hammered.

A rather large bar with decent beer selection not far from Grand Central is a place called The Perfect Pint (link to their website below). it's short walk from the bar to Grand Central, where you can take the 4 directly to Yankee Stadium. You want the location on East 45th Street.

The Perfect Pint - NYC's premier venue for the greatest food and traditional Irish atmosphere

Also, there is a German beer garden themed place close to the perfect pint (I've not been to this place but it might work for large groups). Link below:

I really hate the bars at Yankee Stadium myself, but before our game there against Army we went to Dinosaur BBQ. Great barbecue and if you aren't going to tailgate at the stadium, it's probably the closest really good spot. It's just a few blocks to the subway and then a really short train ride. They can handle groups, but it helps to reserve in advance because it's a very popular place.

What about prices for a beer at bars around Yankee Stadium

LOL....sorry, but they're GREAT bars to hit, for 30/40 minutes before or after a Yankee game, but, awful for a 3-4 hour stint! They NEVER do specials and are expensive. My suggestions to you guys:

1/2 pints. Lots of 1/2 pints. Bring'em into the stadium too!

2 more going. Booked on priceline. Flying into JFK 29th staying by the airport, working our way taking the bus to downtown the morning of the 30th and working our way up the subway route for the Game afternoon of the 31st. Hitting the game, checking out the sights that evening. back to the hotel for the evening flying back the morning of the 31st.

Total air and hotel $490 per person from MSP to NYC.

Got all my plans made and booked. Should be a good time.
Looking forward to a big Cyclone crowd.I've convinced a few big groups to go
so I'm expecting some fun. Lots of tailgating.
Buddy is pulling a big grill(smoker).Bringing lots of hot dogs, burgers.ribs, brisket,
some beef steaks and half a hog.Lots of food starting on the 29th and even more
beer.Look for 3 big RVs with ISU flags and plenty of smoke.Everyone from here is welcome. No cost. All you can eat and drink.I'll post better details on exactly where we will be when I know.

Thanks so much for taking some initiative and making this happen.

Hopefully, this will be coordinated with an official ISU pep rally. Yours sounds great and I would hate to have to pick between them.

Ok you are starting to convince me. Just figured it would be easiest to be by stadium but I'm catching your drift. We will be coming from north bergen. Will have to take bus to port authority

2 for sure, maybe 4. Driving from NE Ohio to NYC. Game vs Rutgers, celebrate win, NYE at Times Square, Jan 1 Dallas Cowboys @ NYG.

He means it in a good way like "your my hero that's awesome that your doing that for everyone"

I would echo that I took that comment to be a huge complement.

My initial thought when you made that offer was along the lines of that's ******* awesome, and this guy is my hero.
