MBB talent compared to other Big 12 teams

Very good, you can read.

Jeff Withey, Elijah Johnson, Travis Releford, etc. were all nailed to the bench when KU got beat by VCU and did little the rest of the season. Probably a good reason for that, they can't play. And you are expecting those guys to be starters on a conference title contender next season? I doubt it. And don't bother with your usual "they were highly rated in HS" crap. Their HS rankings don't mean diddly now.

So Mizzou will win more Big 12 games, and have a higher tournament seed than KU? And ISU will win the same number of Big 12 games, and have a similar tournament seed, as KU?

I'm not saying we're going to win the conference, but this team has a chance to be there at the end and I don't think that's crazy at all to say.

I think this post is right on. Just about every team in the conference has substantial question marks going into next year. It's definitely among the weaker B12 fields in recent memory. Given that Fred&Co were in nearly every game last year with a clearly inferior team I see no reason they can't contend and have a chance to win almost every single conference game this year. Obviously not saying they'll win them all, but I wouldn't look at the schedule and mark any game down as an L at this point. I would not be surprised at all to see us in the top 3 of the conference next year.

Sometimes I think ISU fans have been kicked below the belt so many times that they're afraid to expect good things for fear of being let down...

I thought this was about who's best on "paper"?

KU wins the league usually, but that doesn't mean the have the best team on paper. Taylor has experience, but doesn't otherwise impress. I think Robinson will shine this year after the Morris shadows are gone. Tharpe and McLemore are impressive looking recruits, but outside of those players, no one blows your skirt up...

Baylor HAS serious talent, and Texas is adding a ridiculous class. If they get Ashaolu, they'll he even scarier (obviously)... (on paper).

I think ISU is in the middle as far as talent goes - what we have going for us next year is depth, experience at guard (yes, experience) and shooting. I really think we will have 5 or 6 guys who will really stroke it.

Finally, don't sleep on OSU. They have added a few impressive pieces like Nash (as mentioned previously), Cezar Guererro, and Philip Jurick, a top JUCO post.

Really? How far did VCU get in the tournament? Now what about the team that stomped Mizzou, Cincinnati? Your argument sucks.

We have enough talent now to compete and win, which is more than we've had in the last five years. On paper I think we actually might be near the bottom since our roster is a hodgepodge of transfers, juco's and incoming freshman. It doesn't look as pretty as Baylor's or Texas's. That being said, this team feels like it could make a serious push next year with the right coaching and some lucky breaks.

One thing in our favor is that the core of our "incoming" players has been here for a year already and has great chemistry. You can have a group of all world freshman on your roster but sometimes it takes a while for these guys to jell. Sometimes it doesn't even happen...just ask Baylor.

I think it is also beneficial that many of our newcomers are upperclassman who have played significant minuets in major conference play. Especially having a guy like Chris Allen who was a starter on a final four team is going to be huge.

Finally, I like how our transfers have a chip on their shoulder. They've been chomping at the bit and are ready to get after it. I think this will give us an added boost as well.

These intangibles don't really show up on paper but I think they will show up on the court. Can't wait till next fall!

Dude, you are WAAAAAYYYYY too defensive about Kansas on an IOWA STATE site. I think that you should take it down about 50 notches.

I get that KU is your team. And that is fine, I am one of the people that like Self, and KU.

But to go on another team site, and do what you are doing here puts you on the level of an idiot u fan.

Hit ignore if you don't want to read my posts. I was just curious as to his logic. I didn't put KU first in my rankings, for what it's worth.

On paper Mizzou's returning players are substantially more accomplished than KU. I understand the sentiment of those saying KU given the track record... but most of the recent KU teams have had CLEARLY superior talent to the 2011-2012 edition so history may not be that reliable a guide.

I would not be at all surprised to see KU end up around 4 or 5 in the conference, with ISU being one of the teams above them. Time will tell...

Sorry, not normally the guy to call out spelling errors, but 'played significant minuets' made me giggle:

(from Wikipedia) A minuet, also spelled menuet, is a social dance of French origin for two people, usually in 3/4 time. The word was adapted from Italian minuetto and French menuet, meaning small, pretty, delicate, a diminutive of menu, from the Latin minutus; menuetto is a word that occurs only on musical scores.

Thinking about these 6' + guys and a small, pretty, delicate dance just struck me funny. Again, not so concerned with the mistake, not pointing it out that way, just sharing my chuckle. FWIW

Yeah, but they're playing them (not dancing). With Royce being a music major this makes complete sense and will definitely give us an advantage

Wow, nice defensive response there puddin'.

You are like one of those mopeds that put "cyclone" in your name, but roots against us. I think that it is interesting that you managed to try to justify yourself, but would not let a perceived slight against what is OBVIOUSLY your favorite team go unanswered. You are like one of those jerkoff u fans that come and try to defend the u everytime something goes wrong.

It's cool if you want to be the ********* that you are being, but I would have no idea why you would waste your time on a fansite of a team that you obviously feel is second class to your beloved j-hawks.

The original topic was "on paper" talent, Chickenhawk. Most here agree that Baylor has the most. It was not a prediction for order of finish as most here probably would not predict Baylor to finish first.

Regarding order of finish, I'll be surprised if KU gets in the top three, especially if they don't get Daniels.

Can we stop being so defensive? 1) It's a message board, and 2) He has done virtually nothing to get crap from anyone. He is just defending his argument like the rest of us do.

You didn't really answer my questions. But, man, you sure got me good with that Chickenhawk jab.

I think we're middle of the pack in the B12. A lot of it is going to depend on how talented White is though. We have several, proven solid guards (Babb, Allen, Scotty), but none of them are really elite players. White is the big question mark, big time recruit but hasn't played in two years. If White can be a guy who puts up 18/8 a game we'll be in really good shape.

If we are talking just based on talent,
KU, Baylor, and Mizzou, and Texas are at the top. KU, Texas and Mizzou have more dpeth of talent but Baylor has the most talented guy in the league in Jones.

Then I think it is ISU and Oklahoma St.

A&M is not that talented of a team, under Turgeon they were well coached and played hard, but they don't have a lot of talent.

IN last is Oklahoma, KState, Texas Tech.

Are you serious? not in the top three?

I know its a lot of new faces, but its not like a normal class of new faces. These guys have all been playing together for the last year, more than just a summer. So the fact that they are new faces has little to do with it in my opinion. Babb and Allen have played in venues that are comparable to anything they will face on the road this year.
Its a big talent upgrade on paper, I am having a hard time tempering my expectations.
