Obesity

I'm 5'10" and am around 135-140 lbs (depending on the day) and 21 years old and I can not gain an ounce to save my life. Does this mean I'm blessed or will it catch up with me sometime? I mean I have tried lifting weights, taking weight gainer and eating a ton. I want to weigh around 160-170 lbs.

I will say being really skinny is kick *** at times, like when running, jumping, making quick lateral movements, dancing and basically doing anything that requires agility or athletic movements. But I would also like to be able to defend myself...

As for obese people, I don't have much respect for people who let themselves go like that. They also show that they don't really respect themselves either. If I ever got to be more than 170lbs, I would do anything possible to stop gaining weight because I respect myself.

Right there with ya. I'm 6' 4'' and on a good day I am at 150..... but dropped down to 140 once or twice last year. At my best I think I was 170, but as soon as I slowed down my eating I lost it all and quick.
My biggest problem is that I rarely (maybe once a day) actually feel hungry. And being single with no kids don't really bother with traditional meals.

You can take something natural and process it to the point it is in a state that our bodies were never equiped (or at least intended) to digest.

The fact that you initiatiated the rebuttal against corn talking about eating corn on the cob, tells me you haven't considered this from the proper prospective.

either your doing it wrong, or you don't spend enough time doing it.

the whole i can eat whatever i want and not gain a pound is bs, drink a gallon of milk a day along with your normal intake and i promise you pounds will stack up

also you can spread out your food intake, stop nom'ing on carbs so much and you weight will go down as well.

weight can be manipulated pretty well by anyone, no one wants to admit it though

I don't like milk so I won't be testing that theory. I also don't want to eat a lot of bad things like fast food or pop most of the time. I didn't say I could eat the worst things in the world and not gain a pound. Not my point. Carbs is a good point. I don't count them but I am sure I eat plenty of them. I should probably start there.

I get to watch obese people take the elevator up one floor when the stairs are right there. Its worse when you see them get on the elevator with food to go and carrying a diet Mt. Dew. I just want to say to that person(s), "You are 200 lbs. overweight, eating a 500 calorie fat burger, and riding the elevator up one floor when the stairs are right freaking there. Who are you trying to kid by drinking a diet soda?"

These are the people that are driving up the costs of our healthcare benefits each year.

Agreed...at some level...but consuming a reg Dew (over the diet Dew) could actually be the worst part of the meal (had that person made that choice) . To dismiss that fact ignores how high fructose corn syrup is bad on so many levels so it actually is a plus that lazy eleveator co-worker is not drinking a regular Dew. It makes a BIG difference. Yeah...not enough, but much better for this person's health.

Yeah I don't get the good traditional meals either, I need to a GF that can cook or something! I dropped down to 118 lbs when I had my jaw wired shut, I was really worried I wouldn't be able to get back up to my normal weight.

All in favor of the skinny contributors on the OBESITY thread either starting their own thread or PM'ing each other to discuss their inability to gain weight, say "aye"! :jimlad:

I had a buddy who I lived with who couldn't gain either. He ate terrible too. I mean he ate deep fried stuff and fast food all the time. Couldn't gain even bad weight. He started lifting everyday and took a bunch of protein and other crap, drank a bunch of milk and then he put on about 20 lbs but he said he hit a ceiling after that. I am no expert so I don't know why any of this occurred but I did witness it so...

i think a lot of people would be willing to watch their weight if you start taxing for things like sodas, fast food (unhealthy products), pastries, and chips.

From what I have seen it hasn't worked that well for tobacco products so I don't know it would work here either. They will adjust in other ways. Sad really.

you can eat like crap and still be skinny, just eat 1-2 meals a day and splurge on whatever you want. Not that its healthy for you, but yeah

Taking the stairs would do more for that person than drinking diet pop.

Yes, maybe in Chicago, but do you think that will work in the deep south? I doubt it. I would also question whether that was due more to the tax or the fact that you can't hardly smoke anywhere anymore. I know that has had a much bigger effect on people around me than the tax itself.

That's very true but I don't agree with the principle as it eliminates or curbs your personal choice.

Or the same thing could happen that happened with raised tobacco taxes. They raised the taxes in hopes that people would quit or not smoke as much but that didn't happen and now the government banks on people's addiction.

cigarettes were cheap down south. I remember going to kentucky, $2.25 a pack a couple years ago, tennessee was 3 something. Put it to 8 bucks and more people would quit

In that case you are punishing people who burn a ton of calories each day in order to "protect" the people who have no desire to live a healthy lifestyle. Makes no sense to me.

Buy a gun. Problem solved.

My friend that goes to Rutgers just buys cartons of cigarettes in Iowa every time he visits because they are really expensive out there too.

When I turned 18 you could get a pack for around $4.00 and that was in 2007. Now it's like $6-7 and I've met more people that have started smoking since then than have successfully quit.

well taxing foods like that will be a luxury tax, you can still buy it, it just will cost you more than making a healthy home cooked meal at home.

and raising prices on tobacco did make people quit. A smaller percentage continued on, which was expected.
