ISU gets a vote in the Harris Poll

And another reason why polls are so stupid half the time. I can think of about 75 schools that are better than us.

Harris Poll

Go all the way to the bottom, ISU got one vote. Tied with Texas Tech, I honestly can not believe it. I wonder who it was.

I said this in another thread, this must be the stupidest poll out there. KSU has two votes in it and TT has one.

Also, if KSU is receiving more votes than ISU, why is ISU favored in the up coming game.

My guess for our vote: Jim Walden.

Edit: They don't list the 2009 voters, but Jim was one of the voters in 2006, 2007, and 2008:

Could be someone affiliated with KSU. Happens all the time on the coach's poll. A coach will put in a vote for a non-ranked team that they are playing next, hoping it will enhance the victory if they win or lighten the loss if they lose.

Funny, jokingly, that was who I was going to suggest.

We don't get legit votes until we are 5-1 or 6-2. Even then it's a longshot. I think we have to beat either Kansas or Nebraska to get up there. Can you imagine the CF pandemonium that would ensue if we were ranked?

Here's the 2009 Harris poll voter list (sorry for formatting, but I'm not going to take the time to make it look better.

what does this calculate? They have Oklahoma and Nebraska behind Iowa State.

you can find the formula and reasoning/explanation from their website. Of course, if you can understand it, you probably have a PhD in mathematics or statistics. To explain it at its most basic level, though - it assumes every team is even at the start of the season and only uses on-field results. So the fact that Iowa has beaten 4 teams that are all 3-0 in games against teams other than Iowa, that's a good starting point as to why they're number 1 here.

College football news has ISU as #77 and the jerks have our record at 2-2. They also have Auburn at #4 and Iowa right behind them. I'm in Hell! However, I think that ISU could have done much better against Iowa and that loss doesn't look quite so bad at the moment. KSU, Colorado and Baylor. Picking off another would make for an excellent year. Come on Rhodes!
