Offshore lines opened yesterday and had Iowa State as a 6.5 point favorite against the Bison. That number has quickly risen to 11.0 point favorite in less than 48 hours.

Ultimately I think that ten points is about correct as I think this game could be closer that what people want to admit.

If the Bison get a couple of stops early or Austen throws a pick then we could absolutely be in the meat-grinder for four quarters. Hopefully the D-line and LB's are able to stuff the run and make the NDSU beat us through the air.

FYI Iowa is a 21 point favorite against UNI.

I would take ISU. I think ISU wins by close to 30 pts.

You should take advantage of our lopsided line then and bet on NDSU.

I would take UNI and the points. I think ISU laying off 11 is a pretty good bet. I just don't think they can handle our offense and they do not have the kind of team that can play catch-up easily.

21 is WAY too many to give Iowa over UNI...

UNI's front seven will give Iowa some problems (especially with the suspensions and injuries)...

I honestly believe that if UNI can have a great start (opening drive TD, turnover, score) that they can beat Iowa. Besides, is anybody really sold on Ricky Stanzi??

I'm an Iowa State Season Ticketholder (Section F Row 4) and I'm extremely excited about the upcoming season. However, people need to be realistic about this team and the potential ceilings of this team.

The defensive athleticism will be upgraded with Sims and potentially Taufoou if he brings into the starting lineup. K. Banks, Benton and L. Johnson and J. Smith should create a solid secondary. However the D-Line and LB core is a substantial step below Big 12 caliber. Keep in mind this team couldn't stop much of anything last year and got "zero" pressure with the front four.

This team might gel with some of the inexperienced JUCO talent by week three or four but to expect us to beat anyone 45-7 or 45-10 is the kool-aid talking.

Personally I would take a 28-17 win and be completely content going into Week Two.

FCS Fans.....so optimistic until the game starts....:biglaugh:

Iowa's 2nd team would beat UNI....Iowa's first team will cover 21 easily. I doubt UNI scores a TD on Iowa's 1st team D.

Iowa wins this one 42-6.

Iowa beat UNI 45-21 in 05 (covering your 21 point spread)....and that was a pretty weak Iowa team against a UNI team that played in the national championship game.....good luck against Iowa in 09.

We played a BYU team that was better than you are this year 41-17. It was 27-17 with ten minutes left in the fourth...

That '05 UNI team caught lightning in a bottle and even though they played in the title game they weren't nearly as talented as the teams from the last two years.

Look, Iowa is definitely a heavy, heavy favorite and more than likely will win this game, but it won't be as easy as Hawk fans want it to be. The 'hot start' scenario that I laid out would HAVE to happen for UNI to have a chance. Don't discount us just because we are FCS...

Yeah, BYU was great last season....losing to a 7-5 Arizona team in their bowl game didn't expose them or anything. If you are expecting 09 Iowa to be worse than the 2nd/3rd place team in the MWC, you are going to be VERY disappointed come game time.

Again, no way is UNI that much better than their 05 team that went to the FCS championship game, and 09 Iowa will be better than 05 Iowa. Iowa covered 21 in 05, and they will easily do that in 09.

Obviously anything can happen in football, but you are making an upset sound WAY more likely than it actually is. I'd give UNI a 5% chance to win this game (if EVERYTHING went their way), and maybe a 25%-30% chance to cover 21. But most likely, they'll do neither.

I'll stand by my prediction: Iowa wins it 42-6 (UNI might keep it close for a quarter or half, then Iowa pulls away late).

I don't mean to make it sound 'likely', just possible if things would fall into place.

BTW-- I guarantee we are not the worst team on your schedule, just sayin'

Kind of like in 06, the UND team that won in Cedar Falls, anything can happen that is why they play...

Arkansas State.

I know Indiana isn't on your slate this year, but we are better than they are.

And, sorry CFers, I think we would give ISU a pretty good run for their money as well. BTW- I hope you beat NDSU by five touchdowns!!

Arkansas State is preseason #1/#2 in the Sun Belt, I think you'd give them a game, but it wouldn't be a foregone conclusion that UNI would win.

Indiana is actually on the schedule, and I don't think you'd beat them 6 times if you played them in a 10 game series on a neutral field.

The only part of UNI's team that I would say is actually definitively better than ISU's team is the UNI defensive front 7. However, with ISU's offensive experience at QB/WR and UNI's inexperience at DB, ISU would light up the UNI defense this season.

I don't think you could say definitively that you could beat any of the 3 opponents you listed, and without a doubt, they would be the 3 toughest opponents on your schedule outside of the U of I.
