Basketball recruiting update

Taylor Greenfield is currently the second most-recruited player in Iowa (after HB); until she commits, it will be a circus. In addition to Duke and ISU, North Carolina, Stanford, Texas, and lots of other biggies are after her.

Is she another Ballard Bomber recruiting project? They may have better classes than Fennely...:jimlad:

May I ask why an ISU fan/donor accompanied HB on these trips? Is it a friend/confidant? Of course, if you can't say I understand.
It's the owner of the All Attack Squad but I don't think he went with him.

If McDermott pulled Dykstra's scholarship for no reason, I'd advocate his immediate firing. That'd be the ultimate **** move.

And it will never happen.

I can't imagine it would, but I've seen enough people advocating it before to clear up recruiting issues. :cute:

I can agree with both of these posts. I don't think our coach would do it, but it would be sleazy.

So what do you think of it now?

Do we actually know if "McDermott pulled Dykstra's scholarship for no reason"? Seems like it was pretty mutual?

Yeah. Like the part in the article about how Dykstra had been pretty emotional about it, and had a hard time dealing with it.... :jimlad:
It was mutual because the coaching staff made it that way; at least it seemed like that in the stories. It just seemed like the staff gave him an ultimatum, and he made his decision. Obviously I don't know 100% how it all played out, but the reports made it sound like that.

BTW, there is no such thing as "for no reason". There's a reason for everything. Always.

Is there another thread about this I missed?

IDK; depends on what you know. Perhaps yes, perhaps no. I was searching and found a discussion about Dykstra on one of the pages. I just wanted to see what those posters thought about the situation now. I wasn't saying that they'd advocate McDermott getting fired, but the sentiment is that his schollie wouldn't be pulled.

Obviously things change, and I wanted to see if their opinions on the situation changed.

I haven't been following on here as close the last few days and hadn't heard that Dykstra's scholarship offer was pulled.

Yeah. It happened around the end of May.. From what I read, the staff wanted him to focus more on basketball and not participate in other extra circular activities in school. He didn't want to do that, so his schollie got pulled.

There's probably a thread or story online that explains the situation better.

I see. BTW it is good to see you understand that while results may be black and white, there are always factors behind those results that need to be considered.
It's also why you really have no business signing an 8th or 9th grader. Back then, you're highly regarded, but now he's a 2 star on Scout and not in the top 150 on Rivals. A lot can change.

I don't really get why we jump on guys that early anyways. IMO, the really good guys know they're going to be really good and will wait it out. If you look at the top 100 list for the 2011 class, there are a ton of guys that haven't committed yet.

There just seems to be more downside than upside to offer a guy so early.

The offense wil suit the personnel. Next year at times I wouldn't be suprised to see a line-up like this
1. Colvin/buckley
2.Diante/ Wes
3. Gilstrap
4. LA
5. Craig
That team right there would be really athletic, and quick.

Only problem is that Diante will have to dramatically improve his 3pt shot in this lineup. I know we'll have Lucca and Wes off the bench, but Mac loves the 3 ball, and this lineup doesn't have a lot of 3 pt shooters.....of course it also depends on Colvin and Gilstrap's abilities.

Wes? Am I missing something? Who is Wes? We have had to "Wes'" in the past three years that have transferred. I don't think we currently have a Wes on the team?
