Ashley Okland Murder

If this is truly their only witness I don't know how they brought this case.
Yeah, if what the defense attorneys submitted is true, you basically have to act like that witness doesn’t exist. Because even ignoring the change in story, her memory is bad and she can’t even remember the defendant? The defense will rightfully have a field day with that.

All depends on the jury. Get the right jury and you can get a conviction or not guilty no matter the evidence it seems.

its more of the I hope my tax money will be used responsibly

Keep in mind that this is the defense side. Curious to how the prosecution responds.

That's why i made sure to say 'if this is truly all they have'.

Its possible the prosecution has more (you'd certainly have to hope), and its the defense's job to argue for their client.

But at least so far this all looks pretty questionable. Maybe we'll get more soon when the prosecution resists the motion to dismiss.

I mentioned this up the thread, but they had to know they were cooked when Alfredo (no pun intended) showed up. That guy, at his age, is not showing up to try cases he’s going to lose. I think he knows they have nothing concrete, he can put on a show and it’s pretty much a slam dunk he can get to a reasonable doubt with a few jurors.

Without new evidence, which it appears is the case, I don’t know how you get around waiting 15 years with a jury. You’re bound to have a few that deduce if you have to wait 15 years to charge someone you don’t have enough evidence.

Sadly I think you are right. I know it’s not a popular opinion but at least this case can be tried so everyone at least knows the real deal. If if reasonable doubt gets her off, people can at least form their opinions, the family can know deep down they know who the killer was or wasn’t.

Looks like the Iowa Attorney General's office helped with the investigation, per Copilot. Maybe an effort at too much law and disorder: In the Ashley Okland case, the Cold Case Unit’s work contributed to the arrest of Kristin Ramsey on March 17, 2026, and her subsequent first‑degree murder indictment Iowa Cold Cases. The arrest came after years of investigation by West Des Moines Police, which had interviewed 500 people and followed up on 900 tips, and which had been supported by the Cold Case Unit’s broader efforts to crack Iowa’s more than 400 unsolved murders Iowa Cold Cases+1.

Aren't they required to show the defense all of the material evidence? Especially anything that would help the defense? I'm not a lawyer, but I've watched a lot of Law and Order. :)

Yeah. But that doesn't mean the defense is sharing all of that with us either.

Yes they are. They are especially required to hand over evidence which would help the defense.

This right here. My wife was friends with Ashley. From what I’ve heard the State doesn’t have much. What they are gonna show, though, is that Kristin hated Ashley and she changed her story about that day multiple times. That might not be enough to get a conviction, but it might convince enough of the public that she did it to still make the trial worthwhile. They are convinced she did it. Physical evidence isn’t there, though, from the way it sounds. That isn’t going to change so just put the facts out there regardless.
