Switching phone carriers

T-Mobile is forcing customers (not all but 8M I think) into a new plan even if you didn't ask for it, and increasing monthly plan cost. They have been pretty good overall but service is kind of hit and miss. Wondering what everyone things of the other big carriers like AT&T and Verizon. Specifically for anyone in MN but happily will listen to others in terms of customer service, issues, cost of plans, perks, etc.
 
We switched to T Mobile from Verizon and haven’t looked back. There are really only three providers providing networks anymore and it’s T Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. T Mobile has the bigger 5G network and in the Midwest, they just took over US Cellular. The other cheaper providers use those three networks.

Places like Mint are cheap but don’t offer phone deals and perks like T Mobile or Verizon. It’s really a case by case basis based on needs. Verizon was always unnecessarily expensive for us.

Do the math on an MVNO like Google Fi or Mint or Visible. You have to buy the phone outright but if you don't get new phones often, the savings could be good.
 
Google Fi is what I use. I have service everywhere because they rent from all carriers. 5G almost everywhere. I've traveled the country too. It's great.

They have sales every time a new phone comes out and if you turn yours in it only ends up being a couple hundred bucks for a new phone no contract. The Pixel phones are great and you usually get freebies from Google for buying their phone like AI packages or free cloud space.

Yeah but in rural MN T Mobile SUCKS.
 
Been w/Verizon a while Had to update my IPhone.

The various deals and promotions are so confusing the employees have to keep asking each other if they can do this option with that option.

Added Apple watch and was given a monthly bill estimate (after the first month with all the service fees). Got the second month bill and it's $70 more than what I was quoted.

Funny, you'd think by the law of averages cable and mobile service mistakes would be 50/50 in the sellers/customers favor. In my 70 years on this planet it is ALWAYS in their favor. But, to offset it, they're always really sorry for the error (if you catch it and call them on it.)

Good for international too but a PITA if you use Apple products. You can make Apple phones work but Apple Watches are a no go.

Well that's a bummer. I'm already on a Go5G plan and fortunately those aren't affected. I've been pretty happy with T-Mobile after switching from Verizon a few years ago. Only downside is rural service can be bad, but it hasn't really affected me for the few times I'm ever in those zones.

Way cheaper than Verizon or ATT.

I don't really call much and use wifi majority of the time so TracFone has been great for me. Usually buy a new phone on QVC for under a 100 and it comes with a year plan. Think they are under Verizon.
 
Not sure if Xfinity is a big cable company up there or not - in Texas Xfinity/Comcast is pretty big and if you have them for home internet and you bundle Xfinity Mobile with it, the rates are crazy cheep. They piggy back off the Verizon network so we have never once had an issue with cell service.
 
Anyone know anything about "Pure Talk"? I see the ads on tv and it seems interesting, but it's not a big name carrier. Are they any good?
 
I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned Consumer Cellular. Ratings by Consumer Reports: Consumer Cellular 86, T-Mobile 56, Verizon 34, AT&T 31. Great service, great customer support, and relatively inexpensive compared to the other major national carriers. I got tired of getting gouged by Verizon and switched to Consumer Cellular 10 years ago, and couldn't be happier with my cell phone service. Ignore the rot the other major carriers spew out in their TV ads.

+1 for Google Fi. It's also really easy to set up and change your plan compared to other providers.

Consumer Cellular is on AT&Ts network. Most of the time these other services have more caps and things you have to deal with than the main carriers.

Has Fi solved the issue with iPhones where it doesn't automatically switch to other carriers?
