KXNO Sports Fanatics

Wasn't he always in the 8:00 hour or did they extend the morning show past that for a while.?

Frankly, I've had SiriusXM for a while and almost never listen to any of the OTA stations anymore.
DP Show used to be at 8am in DSM. When KXNO did their last round of reshuffling, they moved DP to later in the day and replaced it with local talk shows.

When DP is done next year, there's going to be nothing in the morning.

Listening to Ross and Travis for the first time to get their opinion.

They mentioned that KXNO recently started streaming video on YouTube and other sources live which I did notice. They mentioned Condon was forced to buy all the cameras/software to make it happen.

This could be true , but I only believe about ten percent of what travis says since he is a terrible human

I liked Busse on the radio. Very knowledgeable about a lot of sports, reminded me of Stanz. The 2-5pm show was a tough listen , to put it kindly.
I think I saw that they may not even broadcast Miller and Condon which it was going to be Ken Miller's last show today. If true, could have at least let him do his last show! I know it is the business, but KXNO actually did well and just went statewide in the last year. I think the way media is going there won't be anyone listening/following. There can only be so much Lebron/Cowboys/etc talk.

He even had his son (and maybe other family) flying in for his last show. Even if they have it, the mood will be different. I'm guessing this decision was made by someone 1000 miles away and oblivious to Ken's retirement, but it would have been nice if they could have waited one more day.

How pathetic if he wasn't able to do his last show. For crying out loud, they pay to be on the station.

Your link brings me to a website.
Was there something else here? I feel like I missed it. (I'm not being snarky at all, just wish I could see maybe what you saw)

It sucks for all the people getting laid off but is local radio really a thing anymore.

The only time I listen to local radio is for ISU games if I am not able to attend. All other times I don't leave Sirius/XM radio.

Yeah iHeart sucks as a company it seems like which is pretty much in-line with the dumb stuff that happens if you have every worked for any big national corporation. Heather recent joked about how they remodeled the floor and took away their kitchenette that everyone used because it didn't fit the redesign vibe they were going for or something.

I've been working in corporate America for 20+ years and survived multiple layoff scares and re-orgs while also watching companies blow millions of dollars on stupid stuff that your average employee would have told you was going to fail or was a bad idea before it was ever implemented. That includes failed business products/ventures and wasteful spending on office-related stuff that added no value or productivity benefits. That's just how things work unfortunately. You have high paid execs and management usually located no where near the office you work at that have no idea what is really happening on the "frontlines" yet sign off on wasteful spending and ideas and promote the heck out of it trying to get you onboard with it. As long as the company stock price is good and they are getting their fat bonuses and perks while the people putting in the real work that drives the revenue has to deal with being micromanaged and stiffed on pay and benefits things usually don't change much. The upper management may come and go but the same flawed thinking still happens. If they need to tighten the finances usually the lower-level folks are let go first and the remaining people are just micromanaged even more trying to squeeze out ever little bit of productivity they can out of them now that they are scared they could be in the next round of layoffs if they don't do more work even though they already have been over-tasked.

I'm numb to it anymore. There was a time where maybe I would be worried about getting laid off but now have been through cuts so many times over the years that if it does ever happen to me I'll just take my severance package and move on to something else. Have friends that have gone through it 1 or more times and they said initially you are mad about it but once you move on you sometimes realize it was a good thing to happen to allow you to move onto something better than what you put up with for years. Most jobs especially those for big corporations you are just a number in a database and can be let go on any given day. I learned early in my career the sooner you accept that the sooner you won't stress out about your job. You do what you can do with the time and resources you have and when you sign out at the end of the day your employer no longer has power over you. Enjoy your personal life when you aren't on the clock, they don't own you.

What do you mean “for now”? I didn’t realize there was a chance they could come back. Please give me some hope!

KCOB was an absolute shell of itself after the last cuts, but at least they carried the cardinal baseball. Now the only mlb team over the air in central Iowa is the Cubs.

There are people behind the scenes trying to get these stations back going again. The stations in Fairfield owned by the same company were shut off in late March. The guy who was running those stations is trying to get it back. He said that he would try to help Newton/Grinnell in any way he can if he can get Fairfield going.

I actually don't mind Lavar but his show with Plaxico and T. J. Houshmandzadeh is better because its real, honest insight.

When the Iowa stuff with Chris Doyle was going, I think it was Plax that asked Lavar what he would do, and Lavar didn't mince words with putting his hands on Chris.
It's that still on?

Not that I could care less about ever hearing Perrault's voice again, but that is crappy if Ken's farewell show got axed today too. That probably doesn't bode well either for Trent and his new co-host either.

I would not be surprised though if CW and the folks at Iowa Everywhere find a way to give Ken his much deserved final show after all he has done to start and keep local sports talk radio alive in Iowa.

Travis and Ross seem almost likeable in this interview of Jamie. Interview starts at around 1:04. (Posted in CyTown update thread)
