He has to go through the draft process before he is a free agent.I get that the NFL wants to avoid stud underclassman not declaring for the draft and avoiding the regular or supplemental draft. But appears the NFL is saying there is no need for a Supplemental Draft because feedback they have received from teams is they are unwilling to give up a regular draft pick to draft Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft.
But if that is the case, why not allow Sorsby to become an undrafted free agent and able to sign with any team? I'd love for Sorsby's lawyers to take a run at the NFL.
He was never in the draft so he can't be "undrafted"I get that the NFL wants to avoid stud underclassman not declaring for the draft and avoiding the regular or supplemental draft. That’s not the problem. Per the article, the NFL rejected his application because it comes with his “integrity of the game” issues and lacked any supporting evidence to help himI get that the NFL wants to avoid stud underclassman not declaring for the draft and avoiding the regular or supplemental draft. Which says it’s the league’s discretion to hold a supplemental draft or not. I don’t see a path for Sorsby here. All going to come down to the CBA language
He applied, he didn't go through the draft process. He's eligible to re-apply for the 2027 draft. At that time, if accepted, every team will have a chance to choose him.But he did apply for the Supplemental Draft. So he went through the process, but feedback from teams was they weren't willing to give up a pick in the regular draft.
I feel like Sorsby has an argument.
Where are you reading feedback on whether teams would give up a draft pick has anything to do with this decision? The NFL said nothing of that in their rejection letterBut he did apply for the Supplemental Draft. So he went through the process, but feedback from teams was they weren't willing to give up a pick in the regular draft.

The CBA just says that the NFL may elect to have a supplemental draft if they deem it appropriate.According the the league, yes. That may be so, but I wouldn't take their word for it.
I get it. But players fall in the draft every year because of off-field concerns (aka drug test, attitude, gambling (Dekkers), etc. It's not the NFL's role to police how high players are drafted but the 30 teams. So if the Cowboys or Raiders or Chiefs want to reward Sorsby with a bigger than normal undrafted-FA contract, that's the open market deciding. Not the NFL.That’s not the problem. No 2026 supplemental draft; Brendan Sorsby's NFL path paused
The NFL has decided not to hold a supplemental draft this year, effectively halting Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby's path to the league this season.www.espn.com
Their decision has nothing to do with whether he’d be drafted or what kind of contract he’d get. It’s about the fact they had no plans for a supplemental draft and aren’t going to hold one this year based on integrity of the game concerns surrounding his application.I get it.
