Texas Tech 10 Million Dollar Portal Season

Kid should have taken his medicine when this came out. Would have saved on legal fees, NFL might have held a supplemental draft if he’d have shown contrition, and would have saved his reputation.

Now hes’s ass backwards in lawyer and court costs, still getting sued by Cincy, and can’t play football for a year or longer.

I get that the NFL wants to avoid stud underclassman not declaring for the draft and avoiding the regular or supplemental draft. But appears the NFL is saying there is no need for a Supplemental Draft because feedback they have received from teams is they are unwilling to give up a regular draft pick to draft Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft.

But if that is the case, why not allow Sorsby to become an undrafted free agent and able to sign with any team? I'd love for Sorsby's lawyers to take a run at the NFL.

He has to go through the draft process before he is a free agent.

He was never in the draft so he can't be "undrafted"

That’s not the problem. Per the article, the NFL rejected his application because it comes with his “integrity of the game” issues and lacked any supporting evidence to help him

I doubt very much that is the case. They're trying to avoid the negative headlines of him getting drafted right now, he waits until next year and there will be barely a tiny blip when he gets drafted.

But he did apply for the Supplemental Draft. So he went through the process, but feedback from teams was they weren't willing to give up a pick in the regular draft.

I feel like Sorsby has an argument.
He applied, he didn't go through the draft process. He's eligible to re-apply for the 2027 draft. At that time, if accepted, every team will have a chance to choose him.

Where are you reading feedback on whether teams would give up a draft pick has anything to do with this decision? The NFL said nothing of that in their rejection letter

I get it. But players fall in the draft every year because of off-field concerns (aka drug test, attitude, gambling (Dekkers), etc. It's not the NFL's role to police how high players are drafted but the 30 teams. So if the Cowboys or Raiders or Chiefs want to reward Sorsby with a bigger than normal undrafted-FA contract, that's the open market deciding. Not the NFL.

Their decision has nothing to do with whether he’d be drafted or what kind of contract he’d get. It’s about the fact they had no plans for a supplemental draft and aren’t going to hold one this year based on integrity of the game concerns surrounding his application.

From the NFL letter

The League has not conducted such a draft for several years and, prior to your submission, the League had no plans to do so this year, as no other player has sought entry. Your Petition—filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions—does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans. The issues presented by your Petition are too significant, and too closely tied to the League’s core integrity interests, to permit meaningful review within the timeline presented.

The sole reasons identified in your Petition for seeking entry into the Supplemental Draft are that you have been “declared ineligible” by the NCAA, have “exhausted all of [your] avenues to continue in the NCAA,” and “want to now play in the NFL.” The Petition provides no information regarding the basis for, or timing of, the NCAA’s decision. Public sources, however, indicate that in May 2026 the NCAA issued a determination declaring you permanently ineligible from participation in college athletics, based on a sustained pattern of improper gambling activity during your collegiate career at three different universities.
