Milan Momcilovic withdraws from the 2026 NBA Draft

Welcome to the real world and life. I do not expect anymore from Milan and these other players than I would anyone else. The player that would stick around and take millions less than going somewhere else is rare. Money talks, and the more money there is, the louder it talks to people.
How many people on here would stay in the current job because of loyalty to the company, if they were offered double the pay they currently make at another job?

Milan was an outside shot at making a roster in the league, the people that were telling him that, its their job to understand which players have the ability to play and those that will struggle and not make it. They are not perfect, but most do a very good job of identifying those players. Milan will be fine, the only one hurt here are the ISU fans expecting him to be loyal to the university, instead of looking out for himself. Milan will be fine either way.

It’s funny in this day and age that fans still allow themselves to get attached to these athletes. Who cares what Milan does? If he’s not coming back here, who cares what he does?

Have we not learned our lesson yet?

can't blame him money talks and loyalty doesn't
Define loyalty.

One could make a perfectly sane and reasonable argument that ANY player staying at ANY school for any amount of 'less' money than they could get in the open market (like Milan did for the last 2 seasons) is extremely loyal, to a coach, to a program, to a school, etc.

Or... you could be attached to the athlete but be adult enough to have some understanding when the situation changes and not lose your **** over it.

I used to care a lot about these kids decisions back then BUT the way I'm constantly broke and just meeting my bills obligations every paycheck, if I opportunity to make then I would take it. Of course, the selfishness in me wants him to stay at ISU, but what if he were my child? what if it was me in his situation right now? What would I want? ISU will always be there and the young man has done a lot of the us, so I would let him go get paid. sucks but if that's what's good for him, then who am I to hate on him. Good luck kid with whatever decision you take.

Well said. From the fans perspective, loyalty seems to be a what have you done for me lately illusion these days. Loyalty runs both ways, if he misses cashing in on the biggest pay day of his career, are we going to be loyal and make it back up to him? No.

Sounds reasonable. If he was your kid, what would your advice be? Take half of what your worth just so fans like you can feel good about themselves and call you a “true cyclone”. Pretty sad from some of our fans. Good luck to Milan, where ever he lands.
According to Pollard, leaving for a bag will pretty much eliminate you from Hall of Fame status, getting your jersey in the rafters...fan goodwill...etc. If money will cover over all of that...more power to him.

I hope Milan comes back to ISU, and it would definitely be his best decision for overall development. However, KY is probably his best choice outside of that. Pope runs a heavy on the 3 offense, he'll probably get the most money and publicity their, and the SEC is not a defensive league. Worst decision would be anywhere else in Big 12 where the D will hound him without mercy.

I would love to keep receipts of people's negative comments about Momcilovic and see how those comments change if he decides to take less $$$ to play one more at Iowa State. (I realize that he's not coming back though.)

Why?

For me it's simple - if he's at ISU I'm all in on him and if he's at another school then **** him.

Same principle for anyone and everyone else.

But as has been said, the criticism isn’t as much about Milan as where the sport itself is today.

ESPN was celebrating last year how all the Heisman finalists were transfers and how that was great for their flexibility. But they are failing to see that it is absolutely killing the sport and a nationwide fan support. I doubt Cal fans were celebrating Mendoza’s rise and victories. College sports cannot survive on just the fans of the top 30 teams. What will they do as more and more fans turn away from college athletics?
