••• 2026 Official Chicago Cubs Thread •••

The sad reality is the Cubs don’t have the pitching to do anything in the playoffs and have a lot of expiring contracts. The last thing I want is to be on the fringe of the playoffs, and sell off some studs in the minors who are close to the show to get marginal pitching that won’t move the needle.

What studs in the minors? It's a league average system built on depth rather than elite talent.

It's the most Jed system imagineable.

Will be interesting if Ramirez goes back down without playing a game or if they send Mo. Strikeout rate in Iowa not that good but gotta do something to get the offense out of this funk.

The Lopez move most likely means the plan for Ramirez he’s here to stay. A lot of moving parts here. Alcantara’s call up lets Council sit PCA for consecutive days if he feels he needs a reset like he did with Seya. Plus if Shaw really is on the block they get to see if Pedro is our utility infield answer. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Mo go down for a couple weeks to get regular ABs.

The Jaguar’s K rate is way too high for his move to be long term but if a couple days off cure PCA it’s well worth it.

Happ is a 7,
Happ is so Jekyll and Hyde. When he is hot he is HOT but he has way more cold streaks than hot streaks. He's not a guy you bat in the 3-5 spots he's more of a 6 hole hitter on a good team. Suzuki had a great season last year and looked the part of a 3-5 hole hitter. Not sure what is up with him this year but needs to get it going. Maybe being a primary DH last year until Tucker got hurt helped keep him fresh to have a good year with the bat?

Just so frustrating how this team for so long struggles to hit with RISP too. That's not the problem tonight when you get just 2 hits. I've said it for years now, Hoerner is the most complete player on this roster and I am glad we were able to extend him as he may have gotten a better deal had he hit free agency. Dude just gets it, not only a gold glove in the field but knows how to put the ball in play and make things happen with the bat. Bregman has a lot of that too and hoping some of that leadership rubs off on the younger players on the team.

I will say Carson Kelly has far exceeded expectations as the Cubs are getting the best years of his career for a pretty good bargain.
Happ is like a 7,8,9 hole hitter on a good team in reality.

Is it sad I completely forgot Lopez was on the roster? Lol

It's a typical Jed roster. 1-2 bench players who can't contribute and rarely play. Tough to mix and match giving guys breaks when the last few guys on the bench are unplayable offensively.

This team really isn't very good. Can't blame the pitching for the most part with this recent stretch of vomit play. The hitters are obviously the problem. No easy fixes, either.
