Bridget Carleton has indeed been cored. I think I was wrong earlier -- I think this does indeed mean a supermax one-year contract (not just max), which would mean around $1.4M. The team can negotiate a lower salary in exchange for a longer contract, but it's up to Bridget to determine if she wants to do that. Either way, she'll be getting life-changing money and I couldn't be happier for her.

It is notable that starting in 2027 veterans with at least 7 years of experience can't be cored. Bridget would fall into that category, so that does give the Fire extra incentive to extend her contract now.

I don't think anyone's going to argue Carleton (or Mabrey for that matter) is worth a supermax contract in a vacuum, but she was in the perfect right-place-at-the-right-time scenario as the best UFA not protected in the expansion draft. The expansion teams have plenty of cap room and need to lock down the best players available, and this is the way to guarantee getting a solid starter on the roster.

Bridget signs with the Fire as expected. I haven't seen terms yet.

To build a good foundation you need solid stones-Bible thingy.

Just saw the box score for Portland tonight. And it said that Bridget did not play as she is not with the team. Any idea what that is about? Still in contract negotiations or is it something else?

She's been playing in Czechia, where her team won the championship just a few days ago. So she's probably currently in the process of moving back to the US for the WNBA season.
