Not the same in my opinion. Metcalf was a relentless competitor. He didn't verbally go after other HC's.

I was just looking at Cal Baptist and what they had for lightweight coaches.
Is Nathan Tomasello highly regarded as a young lightweight coach? He coached at Cal Baptist, Duke, and maybe Oklahoma? Not sure where he was last season. He was a hammer!

FRL just talked about this in the last week or so. Pyles said it's a touchy deal as far as who he can coach until November. I heard an interview with Gilman shortly after he left Cowboy wrestling and it sounded like he's matured quite a bit. But still has a ton of competitive juice.

Metcalf and Perry were a real test for me. I’m not sure if I can get there with Gilman.
I wasn't following wrestling as closely when Metcalf was at Iowa, but was still surprised when he got hired at ISU.

YES, this is it!!!
Why not? He’d be excellent for our lighter weights to work with especially with Rin Sakamato who he brought to OSU while he was there. Also would be awesome for recruiting those lighter guys as well. I get the history behind him but if Metcalf approves I think it should happen.
Yeah, if this is a real possibility why wouldn’t we want this guy. He has trained and coached in two of the better rooms over the last few years. That experience can only help this program.
The door is opening further for me on my (worthless) opinion about the possibility of Gilman to ISU. He has spent time training and learning from Brands x 2, Cael et al, and David Taylor (although it was over after a year in Stillwater). Ok, I'm to the point where I'll take him if Metcalf wants him.
Not to mention he is a world champion and Olympic medalist that can still scrap. If you wouldn’t want him here because he hurt your feelings wrestling at Iowa, you need to grow up.
The following is neither an endorsement either way but I Reached out to a guy that was there that night at Joes and asked him about that rumor. That got a pretty good laugh. “You’re sh**ting me…” was his initial response lol
Gilman is absolutely horrible. Hopefully the adults in the room step in.
