I mean, sure, the Big 10 likes to erase that year. The B1G was making things up far more than any other conference. It was the year that proved when push comes to shove, the B1G will throw out the rules, throw out the bylaws, etc to cater to their big dogs. I am sure they want to erase that from history, because if anything it proves how much they will pull anything possible out their ass to keep the cash cows happy. You mean the Covid year where they were making things up as they go? Dude the season was cancelled to start the season, the Michigan and OSU game wasn’t been played and all the rules were absolutely arbitrary. Plus you know, there was this whole global pandemic thing going on.I mean, sure, the Big 10 likes to erase that year. The B1G was making things up far more than any other conference. The same year State of Iowa gave a $50 welfare check to the Squawks that they never repaid? Yeah that year. You mean the Covid year where they were making things up as they go? Yeah man that year doesn’t count for anyone
And the B1G seem to have far more problems and needed far more rule changes than all the other conferences combined. I didnt see the SEC or Big 12 have those problems, that they need to completely throw the bylaws out the window.Dude the season was cancelled to start the season, the Michigan and OSU game wasn’t been played and all the rules were absolutely arbitrary. If it was in any way a normal season then I totally agree but that was a Frankenstein monster of a season. The rules you are taking about were made up on the fly, no bylaws were broken and legit no one has issue with how that played out. Whole season was an absolute mess
Yeah I’m not gonna cave this with the real response but shocker that the south and big12 didn’t have any concerns whereas the Pac12 and Big10 did.And the B1G seem to have far more problems and needed far more rule changes than all the other conferences combined. I know I know B1G people love to claim that season meant nothing, because it showed their true colors, and they were a complete joke that year. But sorry, you cant erase what was done that year because it made you all look bad.
Its unfortunate for us, given our GREAT team that year, but the COVID year doesn't count. It was just pure chaos of a season.I mean, sure, the Big 10 likes to erase that year. It might not count, but it does prove the B1Gs true colors that they try to ignore or hide. Its unfortunate for us, given our GREAT team that year, but the COVID year doesn't count. It was just pure chaos of a season.
It sucks, because we had a legit great team that never really got to prove it.
Don't want to go down a rabbit hole, but I kinda respectfully disagree. I would say the main theme of the big 10 the last 15 years has been pure greed over everything. During covid, they seemed to put that aside and were willing to sit one out (at least at first). It was just a weird time, maybe we just draw no conclusions from that period. It might not count, but it does prove the B1Gs true colors that they try to ignore or hide.
Peoples true colors come out when challenged. They can easily cover those up during regular and good times. Its during the challenges that you see how they really feel and really act. So in some respects I feel that year showed their true colors, not those that they pretend to have during normal times.
No they still showed their greed. They (and the P12) cancelled their season initially. I am convinced they did that with the anticipation all other conference would follow suit.Don't want to go down a rabbit hole, but I kinda respectfully disagree. That last part isn’t entirely true, by that point many campuses had sent home their student bodies and went fully remote we also saw that young athletes were pretty low risk and with the changes athletes were also allowed to sit out the season without losing eligibility. No they still showed their greed. When the SEC and the B12 didn’t, Kevin Warren and the B10 presidents saw the money they were sacrificing and backtracked, like the schills they are, to start their season in October.
There was no material change in public safety between August 2020 , when they initially canceled their fall season, to October 2020. The only change was they were losing money when others weren’t
I recall thinking that at the time, and they switched gears when most other leagues decided to continue in some fashion.(Big Ten) (and P12) canceled their season initially. I am convinced they did that with the anticipation all other conference would follow suit.
But students had already been sent home during the previous spring semester. I think ISU began students began coming back to campus that August in a hybrid fashion. And we always knew that younger individuals, especially athletes were low risk. The concern was moreso around the spread of the virus, not so much the risk to young athletes. That last part isn’t entirely true, by that point many campuses had sent home their student bodies and went fully remote we also saw that young athletes were pretty low risk and with the changes athletes were also allowed to sit out the season without losing eligibility.
So yeah they made up a bunch of one year rules on the fly that made zero sense at the time and still don’t. Greed 100% was a factor of restarting the season as well as other political factors
No I’m saying that many big ten campuses sent kids home in the fall as well or got very late notice that campus wouldn’t be open. Let to a whole lot of issues about how if students aren’t on campus why should student athletes be on campus and playing games. But students had already been sent home during the previous spring semester. What changed significantly from August to October? The vaccine came in December
Don't get me wrong Spartan cause I like you. But here you're dissing it, by blaming that as unusual behavior because of Covid. No. It is indicative of a culture of entitlement and power. And you should see that above anyone else. You shouldn't so passively shrug that single season off as it was the magnifying glass the rest of the world needed to see just how controlling the B1G and their power teams are.Dude the season was cancelled to start the season, the Michigan and OSU game wasn’t been played and all the rules were absolutely arbitrary. I can’t speak to what all schools in the B10 did for Fall semester 2020, but I’ll phrase my point as a question. No I’m saying that many big ten campuses sent kids home in the fall as well or got very late notice that campus wouldn’t be open. Again also didn’t help that each state was doing its own thing. But also to the original point if your argument is taking place because of a once in a generation pandemic that’s in and of itself a massive outlier
I wonder if BIG (and perhaps Pac, also) wish it had done a postponement, rather than cancellation, just to gauge what others might do. Or did it actually say "postponed"? (I get conflicting details w/ random searches).I can’t speak to what all schools in the B10 did for Fall semester 2020, but I’ll phrase my point as a question.
What aspects of public safety materially changed between August 11th, 2020 (when the B10 cancelled the season) to September 16th, 2020 (when they announced it would return in October)? What happened in those 5 weeks for the conference to say “ok, it’s safe to play”? Did the students return to campus? Were COVID cases going down?
To me, the only change was the B12 and SEC didn’t cancel their seasons so the B10 didn’t want to lose out on money.
Oh you are right about most of that, it was 100% initially virtue signaling at first combined with some politics, as the other leagues kept going there was a ton of pressure but on the conference to have an abridged season both from inside and outside the schools. Money certainly was also a huge factor for many to push to start the season.I can’t speak to what all schools in the B10 did for Fall semester 2020, but I’ll phrase my point as a question.
