Roll Call: Cy’s House of Trivia 2026

We ended up in 10th. Had 3 football players and 1 Ex Volleyball player than most of what left of the Women's basketball team. AJ, AP, Freya and Syd Harris hung out at our table alot. Blake Buchanan to. We lost on the Fishy Catagory.

Fun night as normal
Impressive!

We ended up in 40th, which is good for our table. I agree that it was great to see the men’s bball team there. It’s been a long time.

We had a run of football players and coaches at our table. They did a great job interacting.

The opening montage of highlights was a bit rough this year with only 3 or 4 contributors not jumping ship from women’s bball and football though…

We finished tied for 4th, but won the tiebreaker, apparently. By far, our best finish since winning in 2022. I missed out last year, having scheduled a trip out west ahead of the date announcement for Cy's House, so it was nice to be back in the mix this time. Seemed like it went really fast, even though we arrived when the doors opened and didn't get out of there until 10.

My observations from last night:
*If your table is really close to the video board, the sound is awful. But the further away you were from it, the better you could hear what was being said. Glad each question was spelled out on the screen!

*Food was anywhere from decent to meh. The pulled pork was good, as was the potato salad and chicken (thighs, I think). Mac n cheese was chewy. Maybe I got a dud batch, but one bite and that was it. They provided some freshly packaged cookies - I don't know where they came from, but my snickerdoodle was really good.

*We had ISU president David Cook at our table. Didn't realize it was him until he sat down and I looked at the nametag. He was very genuine, friendly, chatty, wanted to know about us, etc. Left a very good impression. Had several assistant coaches from various sports, including three from football. One of them couldn't say enough nice things about Ames and ISU, having been at Wazzu with Rodgers previously. AND he was so invested in what they were doing as a program, how they've put together the first year's roster, gotten people to really gel quickly. Like it wasn't just the same old platitudes - he really cared and loved what they were doing.

*Got to see some old friends, too. Ashley Joens stopped by our table and we chatted for a couple minutes between rounds. Of course, Cy was buzzing around as expected.

Another fun evening!

Seems like the guest list had been dropping off the last few years with football and MBB hardly sending anyone. It was completely different this year. I think the whole football stall was there along with a lot of the returning players. I didn't see anyone basketball staff (but might've just missed them), but I think all the returning players were there (other than maybe Toure, who I didn't see, but he could've been there).

We also had Cook as our first guest. First thing he asked was where he could get a beer. Super laid back. He is awesome.

We had Cook, Pollard and Jimmy f***ing Rogers. It was a good night. Bobbit looked like he was having a good time.

We had Pleta the first round, he said all the returners were there other than Toure who was back in France updating his visa. Dom said he'll get to go back to Germany for a few weeks once classes are done so he was excited about that and also excited to be here for the full summer so he isn't playing catch up like last year.

We got him a beer because he said he wasn't supposed to get his own but could take them if offered which was funny. I told him it wasn't a hefeweizen but he appreciated it and he ended up showing up for two other rounds so if you were missing a celeb any round it might have been because Dom wanted to have a beer with our table instead!

this was the category? What era and style of music?
Different eras different styles of music, Honey by Patti LaBelle Cheeseburger in Paradise Jimmy Buffet, Rasberry Beret by Prince, American Pie by Don McClean (JW the voice of the Cyclones knew that one :))You needed both the song and the artist. It was fun but it killed us.

I was surprised they hadn't edited out the gymnastics clip. LOL.

There was only one we didn't know. I don't even remember what it was, other than a super high screeching voice that none of us recognized (maybe song #8?). We were hoping for a good music round. That's always been our go-to.

LaBelle (the group) did Lady Marmalade. Honey was Mariah. :)

I think you guys were next to our table! My wife tried to give Blake a relationship advice

Spokane airport code almost got us. That one was random. The top team didn’t miss a question? How’s that even possible?

Having current student-athletes definitely helped. We loved getting to know new players. Jimmy Rogers is a cool dude. I think fans are going to really like him. He’s genuine and pretty real. No ********.

Food was meh. I miss having wings. A lot of chips and dips that we didn't really care for.

We had Paulk, some staff members, and QB coach. Our table loved Paulk. She talked to my wife about Blake. Also gave us great advice on places to go in Greece.

One of the staff members said there are 300 names on the waitlist to get the table. We are so damn lucky to have our table for year after year. Look forward to Trivia 2027!

Cookies were from Schonert's Corporate Catering. Snickerdoodle was good.

These are the catagories for this year. First 3 categories were great for us then the wheels fell off for a couple rounds and made an ok finish of the last 3. Finishes around 50-ish as we didn’t hang around for the final standings. After all the raffle items were spoken for we were gone. All in all a solid evening as always. Had Tyler Roehl at our table for our biggest guest- he was at our table a couple years ago when he was here and remembered us.
