How much of that is defense?
Does it matter? Should just eat some crow (no pun intended) and admit it was a crazy idea to say he needed to be sent to AAA.

He's likely going to hit a hot streak at some point this year, he's too talented not to. Just his glove alone he's going to make some plays that most CF are not going to make that saves some runs. He's 24 and not even in his prime yet so the Cubs are going to keep putting him out there and let him work through it. Feels like they are finally doing that a bit more with Busch and left-handed pitching this year too. He has 28 AB against lefties already this season while he only had 87 AB against them all last season.

What is our obsession with Lopez lol
I understand Counsell likes the guy and he's solid on D. But he's a vet doing minor league time. Why not call up Triantos? He was promoted to the I-Cubs late in the 2024 season, and has hit well at every level in his minor league career. He has defensive flexibility in having played 2B, 3B and OF.

He blocked at the MLB level with Hoerner, Bregman and Shaw. So his value to the Cubs is either a utility player or trade throw-in. But why not see what Triantos can do at the MLB level vs. bringing Lopez back.

I get the Cubs like having a great defense and Lopez gives them a backup shortstop. But nothing wrong with some average defenders if they can hit .250.

He’s played 1B coming up. Don’t be surprised if he ends up there late in a game at some point. Let’s say we get to the bottom of the ninth down one two on two out. Busch up and they bring in a nasty lefty. Suzuki has the day off. Would you rather Busch take the AB or go with Seya?
Yeah, I was wondering why some have been saying that, I saw him at 1B in Des Moines a couple of times last year, he looked fine over there. I mean, it isn't that hard, tell him Wash.

Triantos has no MLB upside. If you're the Cubs front office, you let him play at AAA (1) as absolute, only-in-emergency break-the-glass insurance for ML injuries, and more usefully (2), hoping he puts up good enough numbers against softer AAA pitching that you can get another ML team to take a bite on him as a throw-in for one of the summer deadline deals you just know the Cubs are going to make. There is literally no value in putting him on the Cubs bench when you can use someone like Lopez (or Kingery if he would have panned out) instead.

Bellinger was a former mvp and the Dodgers dumped him because he sucked. Signed a prove it contract and rejuvenated his career. Why didn’t the Dodgers send him down? He didn’t have options.

PCAs swing is a mess at the moment. Personally I think he needs a different voice. Whether that’s up or down it doesn’t matter. But he needs fixing. He has options so it’s always an option. As for his contract as others say you can’t do that. That contract doesn’t kick in till next year.

He's put up good #'s in the minors- .280 hitter. So why not give him a MLB utility role?

Putting him on the Cubs maximizes trade value. What will another team value more? A proven MLB utility player who is only 23 or a player the Cubs put an I-Cubs glass ceiling.

Not sure how you can fault Triantos for lack of upside and then tout Lopez and Kingery. The Cubs already got rid of Lopez once and he was a minor league player for the Colorado Rockies. Kingery was getting his first MLB run since 2019!! For the last 6 years no MLB Club thought he was MLB material.

Hopefully we can at minimum avoid the Sweep this series. At least don't have to face Yakomoto & Ohtani.

I thought Busch getting thrown out earlier was a really bad send. Happ’s was such a good play, extremely high level baseball all around
