Curious on who St. John will target to field our first roster? I assume she will recruit the rosters at the Grand Views, Simpson, Dubuque, North Central (IL) program's for ready talent through the transfer portal who would want to wrestle for a big D1 brand like Iowa State. I know many girls on those rosters from the state of Iowa whose dream would be to wrestle for the Cyclones (so long as they're talented enough). Also curious on who she will add to her coaching staff?

If she’s going to do things like other schools, who have wanted to start a year out, probably looking at a lot of high school girls and wrestlers that would have a red shirt ear to work out next year and then hit the Mat the following season

@LeadersWifeLife would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this!?
Well, I have a long list of thoughts on this. First and foremost the talent pool within our state alone is very deep and I do anticipate the transfer portal getting very busy for girls who want to come compete for the cyclones. Alli is a huge draw, and a lot of girls will want to work with her. And I can speak from experience on my own high school team that competing for a big-time university is important. I have one girl on my team right now who I will be honest, fits the bill. And wanting to compete at division one is a priority to her. So I feel like the ability for Iowa State to acquire and recruit the nations top athletes will not be difficult. Everything is in place. In terms of staff that’s a great question, there’s lots and lots of people out there that would be advantageous for Iowa State to hire, but I will leave all of that to Alli. She has way better connections than a lot of people and I’m quite sure she has a strong list of candidates

I’ll go through Alli St John’s recent insta and twitter follows and look for u17 kids later. That’ll be the best bet for names at this point

I think she will be recruiting for 2026 but they will be wrestling unattached at tournaments but can use that year as a redshirt before compete NCAA in 27.
Agree. Hard to put a full roster together in one year and then possibly turn around it and do it again the next year. Two years allows you to get younger wrestlers and develop for a year.

To balance the roster I think you bring in a 27 class. Maybe 12. Do the red shirt unattached thing. Then transfers and preps in 27.

There are some really good high school girls wrestlers in South Dakota as well.
In Matscouts latest rankings there are 3 girls in the top 20 from SD. 16 from Iowa. Of those 19, 5 are in the top 10. Only one of them is in the top 5 and she is a 95lb freshman from Iowa.

As one of the few power schools with a women’s wrestling program, Iowa and SD are not where we need to be recruiting.

Throughout the Midwest - most wrestlers and parent will be happy to see this.
Yet - need to recruit nationally.
