I got to say that is hard to believe, Okie State couldn’t be dedicating a million dollars to one player. They wouldn’t have any money left over.

It was the best of times — we crushed the Cy‑Hawk 13–2 and notched wins across women’s basketball, men’s basketball, football, and wrestling. Men’s basketball had one of the program’s best seasons ever, and the football team exceeded expectations.

It was the worst of times — we lost Campbell and the squad filed out; women’s basketball lost all but three players after a regrettable, underperforming season despite high expectations.

We don’t have a handful of deep-pocketed backers or a geyser of gold to fix our lower-tier sports budget.

Once-humble State fans refuse to be ignored, but we make due. Because we’re in Iowa, we feed a meaningful portion of the population and contribute far more than people realize. We want to win big in at least one sport — just once — to prove we can and that we matter.

They got money from someone. It’s in the discord what they paid. Liv McGill was very expensive. Already paid a lot to keep Huard and are going after another big name.

I guess OSU isn’t interested in competing in men’s basketball so why not try women’s.

A bit of a ramble, but I feel it’s hard to take numbers at face value when coaches, players, and agents are all incentivized to inflate numbers. I’d wish we’d get pro like rules so at least the numbers were transparent.

Like somehow we’ve went from players not getting paid to them getting hundreds of thousands to millions all in a niche ish sport that most of these schools can’t even sell more than a few thousand tickets to, let alone get people to show up.

I feel almost obligated to not believe them, because how it hell did we manage to keep Addy and Audi and bring in Jada this last year.

TLDR: I’m delusional

I get it. I just trust that skim heard the number from both sides so she felt comfortable saying it was a legit number.
Oklahoma St also came out of no where so have to think they put in an insane bid.

do they all have double-digit spots available? Are we being super-selective so we get THE BEST 2 ppg scorers?
There are a lot of teams with massive needs. The only Big 12 team who is filling their roster is TCU who happens to have the dollars to flash and grab. Even they haven’t had the impact on high level players they’ve had in the past. It’s a fact that signing WBB players is a slow process as the courtship and money realities play out

It does appear that OSU (who is suffering a large exodus like us) is getting paying out big time for players as CycloneT pointed out.

I think a lot of the angst comes from adding that a player like Gift gives the impression that we are already scraping the bottom of the barrel for players. That may not be true in reality, but the optics seem off. I'm sure she's a great lady, but she appears to be a deep bench player.

yeah, the Gift signing was about as anti-climatic as possible. just feels like that's what we'll flush our roster out with so why are we waiting? but the optics have seemed off since about 2005 with this program, so at least we're used to it.

Gift was grabbed quickly as probably a defensive need filler.

Her bio states: "During her 31 appearances in Gainesville, Ezekiel demonstrated a knack for interior defense, posting a Defensive Box Plus/Minus of 1.1. This defensive reliability will be essential for a Cyclone squad that is essentially starting from scratch."

We're prioritizing 6'1 centers when the current TCU roster features:
2 players at 6'2
1 player at 6'3 (Lara Somfai)
1 player at 6'4 (Clara Bielefeld)
3 players at 6'7 (Emily Hunter, Kennedy Basham & Clara Silva) and
1 player at 6'8 (Sarah Portlock)

I hope she has the gift of mad hops!
