Mystery Virus going around Iowa

Sounds like what I had this past February. Very irritating chest congestion and cough. Had a low grade fever early, that only lasted 3-4 days but the chest congestion and cough hung around for several weeks. Basically all of February. It sucked.
yeah I got over something where I couldn't shake the cough for around a month just a few weeks ago. sinus pressure and stuffed up/runny nose with it.

My wife works in health care and at the time said that viral symptoms going around were very nasty and it was common for them to linger up to a month or longer.

Interesting only thing that comes up for that on Google is rotavirus which is the diarrhea one you get as a kid.
I wonder if this is their nickname for the virus
Maybe I’m not following you Cfin; I think it is very likely the doc diagnosed my family w rotavirus and I simply misunderstood what my wife said. Snotty, cough, mild fever, diarrhea etc align. Nonetheless, last week wasn’t fun.

That doesn’t sound very weird to me.
It’s weird in that this is the sickest I’ve been in like 5+ years. Yet it’s not the flu, it’s not covid, so it’s weird for me.

Apparently RSV can actually be pretty nasty in adults even with healthy immune systems. So I’m going to assume it’s that?

All good, you didn’t list diarrhea, so I was wondering why they came to that conclusion.
Yeah that sounds terrible. I had norovirus 3 years ago and that was the worst 36 hours ever.

Could it have been rhinovirus? The common cold. It's rare to get that bad, but it can. Can travel to the lower respiratory tract and have pneumonia symptoms. Can also lead to secondary stuff like bronchitis.
Could be. Honestly wife told me what doc said. All I am in confident in is it began w an R.

I woke up with a super sore throat on Wednesday, had a runny nose all day and felt very sluggish and probably had a fever.

Felt a little better each day and today don’t feel any of it. Have a few coworkers that had some similar stuff that lasted longer. Figured it was just a mini cold

I was sicker than I've been since Feb 2020 when I probably had Covid a couple weeks ago. High fever, general flu like symptoms, luckily it only was bad for a couple days. Probably a week where I wasnt 100%

Does anyone have an idea of what it is?
My coworker at work got it, started off as just a cold, then moved into bronchitis.
He tested negative for covid & Flu A/B
And yes, I’m asking because he gave it to me lol.
Felt a cold coming on last Sunday, still went for a run, Monday I felt quite a bit worse. Tuesday bad again, Wednesday felt a little better so went on another run.
Thursday felt terrible and had a low grade fever for 3 days. <100.4
Now just have a wonderful hacking cough.
(No fever anymore)

Any ideas on what’s going around?
Most likely RSV, been seeing a lot of it lately all over the Midwest.

Avoid the intense cardio and stick to light exercise if you need to, push fluids harder then usual, avoid alcohol, take regular Tylenol and NSAID’s as listed (assuming you are able)

Cough is likely going to persist long after the other symptoms fade which makes it sound like you are dying to others but you feel good otherwise.

My 15m old daughter had this last week and we wound up in the PICU for 2 nights after a trip to the ER. She was struggling to breathe.

She had a similar, though not quite as bad, experience with RSV in Feb.

This is exactly what happened to me. Everything else passed but the occasional lingering cough hung on for weeks all by itself.

I also tested negative for Covid and flu at the start of mine. Figured it was just bronchitis.
