Williams & Blum: More Cyclone Therapy

Blum’s account of last year having to scramble in 48 hours to get more money from donors to keep Jefferson, Momcilovic and Lipsey from transferring - was sobering.
There is no loyalty anymore.
Unless you’re Iowa for whatever reason

Regardless if Iowa State can keep up… I feel like my fandom will slowly die.

Perpetual free agency and a lack of connection to a professional city slowly killed my NFL fandom.

I don't know why the same things wouldn't do the same thing to me college fandom.
The thing is, the NFL is a much better system than college right now. I’d kill for college football and basketball to have an NFL type system.

Salary cap, even the NFL’s “fuzzy” version
Multi-year contracts
Rookie (freshman) contracts that are more reasonable

Really, we’re all frustrated/fed up with the college system because there isn’t one. Chaos is the “system”

Agree. But college sports will never get there unless it's collectively bargained, which means athletes become employees. I know administrators hate that idea, but I think it's time to face reality.

Also, the 'Haves' would have to give up their built in advantage. I'm not a lawyer, but I think Congressional action could ultimately force that.
