Read everything Jamie Pollard said in his statement regarding both basketball programs

It's not overly lengthy, that is true. I would say around 3-5 mins would be all I need as a fan. 1-2 times a year.

It's probably more the frequency like you, I, and others have said. We have had some significant events for sure (FB coaching change/bowl game decline and women's gymnastics were undeniably newsworthy)...but idk if players hitting the transfer portal is a significant enough to demand a video acknowledging it...

The transfer portal is literally happening everywhere nationwide. It's just the state of the beast that is college athletics, every school is experiencing it to some degree. And as significant the #s felt or feel to be in FB & WBB, we're still not even the biggest in terms of #s both nationally or even in the Big 12.

I guess I look at it the same way I do all the players AI/chatGPT sounding social media post about deciding to change schools. I just don't think they deserve newsworthy acknowledgement, it's their personal choice. They'll have to live with it for better or worse. Thanks to them for their time at ISU, and next man/woman up! The ones who decide to commit/stay at ISU are the ones who matter and are newsworthy to me.
Normally I'd agree with you about the Portal, however, in this case I see it differently. This was all set up by the players. Notice how they each had a day to announce to themselves? There was a schedule to all of this. They all knew who was announcing and when, otherwise it'd have been like the first day with 4 announcing at once. This was a statement.

Not really as coordinated as you think. We actually did have four announcements on the same day-the 24th.

This bothered me as well. Yes, he needed to come out and make a statement, but one of his biggest weaknesses is his ego. He has a history of taking petty shots at people whenever things aren't going well. Listen, I hate Iowa as much as anyone, but throwing that little jab in there was just dumb. He's done amazing things for this university, but this part of his personality/legacy is not a highlight.
I felt he was just pointing out to those who act like we are the only program losing players by showing schools that had better season records also have a number of players going into the portal.

Until we are told a reason they are all leaving, which I doubt will be forthcoming, it's all speculation about what is going on. It's up to JP to find out why all these players and leaving and to fix it. This far into Bill career, firing him and taking the financial hit for the university really does not help the situation at all. Bill needs to be told, this upcoming season needs to be his last at ISU, and that hopefully he will walk away with his head held high for everything that he has done for the university and then once the season is over, we can start anew with a new staff. If Bill fights this, it could be ugly not only for him but the university.

I've heard from a pretty reliable source that he is pushing for an extension to help recruiting. If Jamie agrees to that he is basically delaying the rebuild and cratering the program. Let him coach next year to honor contract and save a few $ and then completely clean house with young hungry staff. I donate specifically to WBB but will be done if this staff is here after next season.

Giving Bill a new contract would be a mistake in the long run, he is 68 years old, and will turn 69 in May, born in 1957. If we have to take a recruiting hit for one year because of his lame duck status, then you take the hit and move on. No way should ISU give him a new deal. Not sure why people want to coach into their 70s, coaches today make millions a year, retire and spend time with the grandkids or travel.

JP has done an outstanding job at ISU. One can only wonder if he's been given a "shorter" leash by the incoming president and is responding to his new audience of one. Or I'm thinking he's taking enormous hits from the audience of thousands who have been whipsawed by the comings and goings of coaches and players this year, and the effect it will have on donations and football ticket sales.

If he's trying to get out in front of the uncertainty with football and early exit from the NCAA tournament and trying to calm our collective fears, I hope it works

That would take JP contacting the players, and talking to them individually about their reason(s). Just can’t see him doing that. As his video demonstrates JP is very loyal to Fennelly.

I know for a fact that JP has never talked to several of the top WBB players in the 3 years they have been there. Never has even introduced himself to them. so take it for what its worth on the GREAT JP and how he feels about the players on the WBB team.

Have any of the WBB assistant coaches been offered head coaching jobs elsewhere?
Did Easly get the HC job at Okie St. I remember he went there. Pingston(?) went onto HC at Missouri (?) I think. But the current staff has been on the same page for a long time.

No wonder BVD was such a ****** AD, he never personally talked to me when I was playing football. What a travesty!!!

Doesn’t surprise me.
Ex-gymnastics coach Jay Ronayne was quoted in the DM Register as saying Pollard hadn’t spoken to him in the entire year prior to him being fired.
What leadership…

That would be a disaster. And I do wonder if it’s to help recruiting, or to make sure his son still has a job. If he gets an extension, it will be interesting to see season ticket renewal rates going forward

The number of "new members" that have joined this board in the last week is fascinating. Your post history tells me you are very close with Audi, which is...interesting.

Just curious - what was Pollard trying to achieve with this message? Trying to rally financial support for the basketball programs in time for the transfer portal to open next week?
If he doesn't make a public statement, peope complain loudly. If he does, people complain loudly. Weirdly it is some of the same people.

I mean, I guess if you’re Fennelly you ask. It’s fascinating to me. We hear that “Bill has earned the right to go out on his terms”. Why? Not like he’s done this for free.

He’s earned $10-$20 million plus, not to mention all the benefits plus whatever Billy earned. If anything, he should go out on our terms! And I know that’s not how it works, but geez, he lost the chance to be legeo10 years ago. Read the room dude.

Makes a lot of sense from Fennelly's point of view. But JP isn't going to do that. CBF can decide if that's a deal breaker for him or not, but he's got one year left and no real leverage. Maybe they have to fund WBB a little higher so he can go out in style if they can scratch up the money, but an extension costs millions and you don't really sound credible asking for one after two team exodus in four years.

This is what annoyed me about his video. He’s basically saying that “things could be worse, but they’re not so shut up!”
More and more Jamie is getting into the same boat as Bill- he’s done a lot of good, but I think the environment has passed him by some. We’re not all Sukups, Starks or Van Diests, but he really does take the small dollar donors and ticket holders for granted.
The more I hear JP talk, the more I think it's time he gets the McCarney treatment: "We greatly thank you for all you have done here, but we need someone to take us to the next level...."

You can appreciate someone's accomplishments and still need new leadership for the next phase.
