Bill Fennelly

I do think in the next round of TV negotiations will probably separate WBB out from the rest of tier 3 sports broadcasting. I’m sure it still won’t come close to covering costs, but might be better than now.
About 2% worth of total sports right. I’m sure it’ll be sold with mbb though. Wbb getting tournaments units should help a tiny bit too

Lyndsey Fennelly’s post tells you everything you need to know about why this program is where it is. All about player loyalty but zero introspection. Zero accountability. All everyone else’s fault.
Looking at the reunion this year and how few former players came back speaks volumes. Just massive lack of players who feel like they should come back.

I was surprised she was projected that high, and in searching around for it, stumbled on this projection:

It's just one projection, but ISU has the #3, #18, and #27 projected picks.

You'd think a college team with all three of those players would be pretty damn good!
Be careful…some folk on here get offended when you provide sources that show our players to be high picks. :p

Maybe it helps some, but I doubt it's much.

While I do think there is some value in separating out FB and MBB, it's not magic. When the sports get negotiated together it isn't like the networks or Yormark don't understand there's value from both. It does allow you to target each to the partner that values each the most individually. And that helps, assuming there is a potential partner that would give big $ for MBB that doesn't quite have the appetite for a big FB deal. Mostly I think the separate negotiations will be a marginal winner for the Big 12. The potential game-changer would be if something non-traditional was willing to shell out big bucks for MBB. I think you want to be careful going too non-traditional with FB given the importance of eyeballs on the games. Regular season MBB I don't think that matters so much, so you can do something different to the highest bidder.

So how many do you feel should come back? People have many things going on in their lives and many do not live near here anymore so I just enjoy seeing those who can make it back.

How many came back and how many should come back according to your barometer?

The fact that the coach's daughter-in-law has felt the need to do this twice in three years speaks volumes!!

She's workin' hard to keep her husband employed and not having to look for a new job since who knows when as he'll never make the money he's making right now ever again in his life. That's a good loyal spouse and ya have to respect that....though I still hope JP & BF determine what's truly best for the program AND BF's legacy is for an immediate re-boot and for Billy to go get a non-nepotism related job somewhere else, sooner rather than later.....fingers crossed.

Am I crazy thinking that if it was going to happen, it already would have?

He's here next year, then we can do all this again.
I agree. The family being putting out weird defensive tweets probably means Bill has dug in. It is possible that we've offered Audi nearly our entire rev share portion as an attempt to keep her here.

Nope, that's pretty much it.

There's mostly radio silence because the true answer is "he's gone in a year, it won't be sooner because we'd rather help pay for one of TJ's targets this year than put more money into a program that's already deep in the red and Bill isn't willing to work with us on that", but that won't be a particularly popular answer among some.

Easy for me to say as I'm not invested in WBB to the degree that some are, but I'm ready to move on from this. All that "family business" stuff sounds nice in a press conference but it's also a pretty clear attempt to claim ownership of something that isn't yours. This whole thing got pretty unhealthy at some point and won't end well, regardless of when or how it ends.

I agree, unfortunately. They had to have seen this exodus coming and could have taken the graceful exit ramp prior to the transfer portal announcements. We might never know but perhaps it was discussed but maybe nobody wanted to pay the salary buyouts. Or maybe he’s too stubborn to consider what’s best for the program. Hard to see a successful season coming.

For the last couple of years I just assumed CBF would retire when Audi, Addy and AJ graduated. I'm good with CBF and our staff as our coaches next year. I assume I'm in the minority. I really hope Audi and AJ stay at Iowa State with EP.
I wish the kids who are leaving much success as long as they don't end up at other Big 12 schools. The kids will either have a great situation in their new school or they'll wish they would have or could have stayed at Iowa State. In this day of college athletics the kids have choices, which is good.
We all know one thing that will have to happen with the exodus of the nine players. Our coaching staff is going to have to earn their money and work their butts off to put a competitive team on the court. I wish them luck in finding athletic kids to fill out the roster. The new kids brought in will be going to school at our University and will be wearing Cyclone jerseys. We all still get to watch and cheer for our team and of course continue to critique the coaches and players.
If we're not very competitive more than likely we'll have a new Staff after next season.
