**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

I see people are moving on from criticizing Jefferson and his game to getting an early start criticizing Milan. We need Milan to stay at Iowa State! He improved tremendously this year and I have no doubt it will continue. He is a rare talent. I believe the same will be true for the development of other guys returning. Player development has been great under TJ. Roster construction under TJ has also been great. I’m excited for next year.

I need Milan to take more shots going to the rim. Not necessarily layups but moving towards the basket. With him it seems it's either fade away mid range or 3s. At 6'8 the fact he only gets 2 freethrows a game is frustrating. Especially how good he shoots it there

I think Milan made strides in that area this season. He made back cuts when he was being over played. He also made more shots in the lane than previous years. Yes, he can still improve but I personally think we say improvement this year. I don’t think he exclusively used the fade away like past seasons. I do think he needs to pump fake more to get to the line the way he is guarded.

I thought Buchanan was really good overall this year but he got eaten alive by TN’s bigs.

The big difference from last night was Tennessee’s bulk. Those guys weren’t just tall, they were brick shithouses. No way Buchanan or Pleta can match up with that.

And athletic. Buchanan and pleta didn't stand a chance.

I was more disappointed with how lost the team looked. There were like 10 rebounds where the whole team literally just watched and made no effort expecting someone else to go after it or something.

Yes someone will back a truck up. And he's best wide open and with us losing 50% of our scoring this year people will key on him like last night every game. If he went to Duke or Uconn He wouldn't be the focus and could shoot all day. And his defense is terrible.
Next year won't be a rebuild but will really be looking to 2028 I think when the youngster guys have some time to mature, unless we get an insane transfer. We were a top 10 team all year so it is an appealing place to go for the right player
Hyvee backed up the truck. Milan isn’t going anywhere

If everyone stays. This team needs a player that can can get to the hoop and draw people off of Momcilovich and Batemon to open the floor. Toure will improve in this area but he cant be the only one. The Mason Williams did some of this but it was at a much lower level of play but he will add some driving and scoring outside. Wiggins was a target for at least 3 years and can shoot from outside but has a bigger physical frame at 6'5".

Then add 2 post players and at least one be a physical presence and the team is preseason around15th again with the possiblity of being better.

If Momcillovich goes I wonder if they try to go young and focus on development of younger players on the team or still go for the best available team next year.

I agree with the bolded, but ISU's scheme does nothing to help him in this regard. There are no sets to get him moving towards the basket . His game is one-dimensional.
To a big degree feel like Jefferson has blocked that development and need from ISU. Tough for staff to justify giving Milan those plays when TJ has a 2nd team AA.

That's why this offseason is huge for Milan from an NBA draft standpoint. He's got to improve his body and dribble/drive a lot.

One-trick ponies don't make it to the NBA. Remember Jimmer Fredette? Amazing shooter in college but not much else to his game at all. He was a lottery pick too and completely flamed out almost immediately.

NBA either want elite play-makers or elite 3-and-D guys. Milan is missing the D. If you'd be able to combine Milan and Toure, you'd have a top 5 NBA draft pick.
Kyle Korver?

Milan gets picked on defensively and needs to be better on the boards but he might have been the most improved player from the year before. He will really need someone around him who can take some pressure off of him but he'll be the centerpiece for next year.

Toure, Batemon, Buchanan, Milan and Pleta would be a really nice core. Need to bring a transfer who can create their own shot, a stretch 4 type would be nice but if it's a guard, so be it, just go get the best scorer you can find. Then hope to hit on at least two of the frosh and we're back in business. We'll likely be TJ's youngest team he's had at ISU, that could mean taking some lumps and a bit of a step back from this year but with the right transfer or two, the roster is ready to roll again.

Not worried at all about next year’s roster. TJ has shown he can evaluate talent and he’ll fill the needs for what the team needs. Can’t wait to see what TJ does in the portal.
Pretty much every year I wonder how we're going to replace guys, then we end up even better the next season. He finds a way.
