*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Schmidt... and Jefferson injury... what it boils down to. Wish TJ was a better offensive coach to boot
How many teams are going to make a deep run without their best player? You saw it with Tech losing Toppin. BYU losing Saunders certainly hurt them. Take away Stirtz from Iowa, Boozer from Duke, Lendeborg from Michigan, or Wagler from Illinois. Could they still make a deep run? I suppose its possible, but its a heck of a lot harder to do. Truth is it was just bad luck with Jefferson getting hurt, and while tonight was a disappointing result it shouldn't be a huge surprise either.

Everything that goes wrong in an Iowa State loss happened tonight. Bad free throws, players disappearing, and losing the rebounding battle. Tennessee wanted it more.

Maybe but they didn't really play all that well. Shot FT's poorly and turned it over 15 times.

Fair enough but shouldn't a great coach and talented Big 12 team be able to overcome that?

For example Florida is the top rebounding team in nation in terms of rebounding percentage and a team with no bigs, and far less talent than Iowa State managed to rebound even with them

In 2000 Cincinnati Bob Huggins was the coach. They were going to be a number 1 seed.

He had a player named Kenyon Martin great player first team all American. They had future NBA guards too
.
He gets hurt in conference tourney, Bearcats go from a 1 to a 2 seed as a result

They lose in the round of 32 cuz Murray could not play

Now I always thought Hugs was an outstanding coach, maybe you disagree

But yet they lost in the round of 32 because their best player was gone

Milan needs to put on weight and work on being the guy in the offseason. Because he’s going to be the guy next year. No more disappearing and being a non factor when it matters. I hope he can do it, but tonight’s performance leaves me very doubtful he can do it
Agreed. Realistically I don’t want to be too hard on him. His growth from last year to this year was huge. It’s a credit to him that I’m frustrated that his game isn’t more well-rounded, because he has now proven he is an elite shooter.

It's really hard to impose your will against their advantage in athletes.

Broken record, but need to get Milan open and let him shoot...and maybe draw some fouls to get some pts at the line as our offense is struggling.
You mean try something other than swinging the ball around perimeter for 25 seconds every time down the court?

Just overall pathetic Jefferson wouldn’t have made a difference, Milan you’re good at disappearing In big games. Iowa elite 8 we’re going home that should piss you off as a fan
Uh... hes key in stopping lob passes and getting boards. He absolutely would have made a difference
