Rivalry would you rather.

Honestly my biggest fear is we lose on Friday and they win on Thursday so all we hear all offseason is how our "best team ever didn't make it as far as Iowa"
I'll raise you one. If ISU loses Friday, 1 of 2 things will be true:
* Iowa advances further than Iowa State. (Double-whammy considering tournament seeding of each)
* Fred Hoiberg takes Nebraska (of all programs) further in the tournament than any of his ISU teams (as player OR coach).

That is a daunting "Would You Rather?" scenario.

I've always considered the hoks as #2....
True Story: That is how Auburn's tradition of rolling the trees at Toomer's Corner after a big win started. In 1972, they were a big underdog (17 points or so) to #02 ranked Alabama. Before the game, somebody asked a player about the game, and he said: "We are going to Birmingham to beat the #02 out of them!" So, when Auburn pulled the 17-16 Upset in the Punt, 'Bama, Punt Game, the Auburn students all went to Toomer's Corner to roll the trees. Has been a Tradition ever since.

Weren’t the trees killed?

Unfortunately, yes - 45 years or so later, but it wasn't due to rolling them. They were poisoned by a wacko. However, Auburn has planted new trees. They should be big enough to take a rolling the next time Auburn beats the #02 out of Alabama! :)

Would you rather go to the championship game and lose to iowa

Or.

Iowa loses to Nebraska and we make final 4.

My hatred for Iowa runs deep and this is tough.
Not a question, final 4 not losing to Iowa. No chance they get by Houston though. To not stop hearing about Iowa beating us would be brutal. What would make it worse is all these Iowa fans that didn’t care all season will all the sudden be die hards. That’s already started happening

It's funny Nebraska fans and Iowa fans are both the same. Nebraska and Iowa have not cared about mens basketball for years. Nebraska cares about womens volleyball and iowa fans care about womens basketball. Now all of the sudden they are all in. Neither supported their teams for the last 30 years. Now they want everyone to believe they are both the best fans out there.

Exactly this! I honestly want to pull for Iowa but so sick of the sudden die hard fans who don’t even know the name of their starters other than a couple players

Back to regularly scheduled programming:

Losing to Iowa OR Iowa winning is NEVER good for Iowa State!

Let's Go State!

Lots of Myth and Legend about it. I was referencing the version from former Auburn A.D. David Housel:

Heh. I’d heard of it (though only through the stories about the guy who poisoned them) but it is early and “rolling the trees” just meant something else in my foggy brain.

Nebraska for sure. I really like Fred, and I just don't have the disdain for Nebraska like I did when they were in the Big 12.

ISU makes the Final Four, and loses to Iowa in the title game. OR, ISU makes the Final Four, and Iowa doesn't. Hmmmmmm, that's a tough one. Not.

I go to the YMCA in Marion and the amount of Hawkeye gear Tuesday night was 3X what is has been the past 6 months.

Side note I heard a couple of Iowa "fans" at Harbor Freight last week complaining about Mark GRONKOWSKI not getting invited to the combine. Maybe he actually got an invite but they spelled his name wrong on the letter and he assumed it was someone else.

Yeah, something better might be:

1. ISU makes the Final Four
2. ISU wins the title but loses to Iowa the next 5-10 seasons

Still hard to conceive, but not as absurd as Iowa winning the title.

Edit: #1 obviously. I personally enjoy beating Iowa, but it isn’t as important as conference or postseason games.
