I was among people who assumed UNLV would win that.Even after he made multiple final fours, there was still talk about how he could not win the big one. What is funny is the year they finally broke through, they were HUGE underdogs to UNLV. Everyone said that it was a formality that UNLV would win. That game against UNLV was one of the few times I actually rooted for Duke.
Yep, that was the one. Think it originally aired on ACC Network but guessing you can probably find it on the espn app somewhere. Was a good watch. No, found it:
The class that saved coach k.
Same. I was a freshman in 91-92, Fred's freshman year.My first thought when I saw this was "Is Fred really 53?". Then I realized that I was at ISU when Fred was and I am also 53.
Fred was Johnnys ball boy when I was in college.Same. I was a freshman in 91-92, Fred's freshman year.
At the time it was considered a big upset. But in hindsight, Duke had better players. Duke had Laettner, Hurley, Grant Hill, Thomas Hill and Billy MCcaffery. UNLV had Larry Johnson, Augmon, Hunt and Anthony. I think Grant Hill tipped the scale towards Duke compared to the year before.Even after he made multiple final fours, there was still talk about how he could not win the big one. And with ISU having revenue greater than St. John's, Arizona, Iowa and Houston? Where does the money go?Very interesting article about how much each of the Sweet 16 teams has spent on their programs:
Iowa State’s $9.8 million in reported expenses was last among remaining teams and ranked 72nd nationally, about the same as Memphis, Virginia Tech and Seton Hall. To put that in context, UConn spent more than that ($11.4 million) on salaries for its coaching staff last season.
