Yes I know I could spend an hour looking this up but is there a good option for mass transit to the United Center from the Western burbs? My definition of good option is parking at start point, minimal transfers and multiple time options including a late return.

Don’t uber. I had one of the craziest uber experiences of my life in Chicago. The dude was insane.

Metra to OTS. Then CTA bus to the UC?
This or Metra to Ogilvie/Union and then Green line from Clinton to Damen or Ashland.

Either way, I think last Metra back out of the city to the west burbs would be like 12:30-ish depending on the suburb? With the late tip, it could be a hustle to get back to catch that last train back out.

I agree.

Iowa State
Kansas
Miami
Providence

But Michigan may make the lots fill up more this time around?
Unfortunately, United Center doesn't have the "fan friendly" setup like Fiserv in Milwaukee, with the "deer district", etc. However, that does mean it has parking lots....

There is a plan to completely re-do/build out the area around United Center. Timeline, combined with Chicago politics, should have it completed in time for Lipsey's kids to play a Sweet 16 game there....

It stinks it's not more accessible via the L.

As others said, metra is your best bet. Either walk to a pink/green line from the station or just take a cheap quick cab from the station. Especially if you want to drink at the game

Son doesn’t think busses run that late and all trains don’t run after certain hours. Late trains are rather sketchy.

From the CTA website:

United Center

1901 W Madison St, Chicago, IL
at Madison/Damen
Forward arrow(Opens in a new window) Plan a trip to here with Google Maps(Opens in a new window)

Trains

Blue Line
The stadium is just a few blocks north of the Illinois Medical District stop on the CTA Blue Line. The shortest walk is by exiting the station to Damen Avenue (western-most exit) and walk north on Damen to Madison.

To get to the Illinois Medical District stop from the west (including the far West Side and the communities of Forest Park and Oak Park), take a Blue Line train toward O’Hare. From the east and north (including downtown, the Northwest Side, northwest suburbs east of O'Hare and directly from O'Hare Airport), take a Blue Line train toward Forest Park.

Green and Pink Lines

The stadium is two blocks south and one block east of the Damen stop on the Green Line, and two blocks south and three blocks west of the Ashland/Lake stop on the Green and Pink Lines.

To get to the Damen station from the west, take a Green Line train toward Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove. From the east (including downtown or the South Side portions of the Green Line), take a Green Line train toward Harlem/Lake.

To get to the Ashland/Lake station from the west, take a Green Line train toward Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove, or a Pink Line train toward the Loop. From the east (including downtown or the South Side portions of the Green Line), take a Green Line train toward Harlem/Lake or a Pink Line train toward 54th/Cermak.

Buses

You can also use CTA buses #9 Ashland, #19 United Center Express, #20 Madison, #50 Damen or #126 Jackson to get to, or within a few blocks of, the stadium.
The Forest Park station for the Blue Line has parking.

You could take the Metra UP-West Line to Oak Park and transfer to the Green Line Harlem/Lake Station which will get you to Damen. The risk there is your only options heading outbound after the game are 11:56P and 12:56A from the Oak Park station.

There really isn't a good option from the burbs. Metra to CTA to a bus. If you book ahead, If you have a car, look into buying parking ahead of time. I've always been able to get it in a lot right next to the UC. Personally, that time of night, I'd take Metra in and Uber from there.

IF parking isn't an option, hopefully someone else can give you more specifics, like I said, I always just drive to the UC.
