I'm hoping they bring UMKC's court over. Let's get that kangaroo on national TV.Kind of hoping the only floor they could get on short notice is like the Missouri Girls State Tournament floor or something.
Either they had last year's court still in storage at the arena, or they'll use the generic TMobile Center court with some Big 12 decal stickers on it like they do for when Kansas plays there. So, this is obviously a fairly easy switcheroo of the courts, right? I personally am hoping for the most insanely generic court possible due to time constraints.
Exactly. This seems to me similar to when football teams are not sure about which version of cleats to wear. There's a difference between the floor being "safe" to play on and being something the players are used to playing on. Christian Anderson said in his postgame yesterday "the floor is a bit slippery". Some of our guys had been changing their shoes over the past couple of days. Clearly it feels at least somewhat different and probably takes some amount of adjustment to playing on. It doesn't mean it's garbage and will never make a return in the future. I'm sure there are a lot of things that went into this decision; player safety, liability, and optics for the league. I'm also sure that many are making a way bigger deal out of it than it probably is.
This could not have been a better screenshot.
Yormark is a smart dude. The online reaction isn’t what made the big 12 switch. My guess is the powerful coaches and ADs privately made a huge deal out of it.
The floor was a mistake. Blame injuries if you want, but it looks terrible on TV. They couldn't go into the semifinals with that ugly floor. Especially with multi-screen viewing everywhere at the bars, at the sports book, in quad-box at home. It doesn't look professional at all side by side with Big10, SEC, and ACC tournaments. This is the Big12's time to shine. Kansas, Houston, Iowa State, and Arizona all on that **** looking floor? Can't do it. Doesn't matter what it looks like in arena, it looks AWFUL on TV. TV is where most of the eyeballs are. It doesn't even make any sense from an ad revenue standpoint. Nobody at home saw anything other than the Phillips 66 logo. All this so 15,000 people can see commercials. GTFOH
I thought it looked good at times. They were certain angles that were better than others. Stationary shots from a higher angle looked great. But cameras in motion from lower angles lost the XII graphic quiet often and the seams were really noticeable. Didn't really like how it looked like players were floating from the end line shots. Looked like a video game. The look of it on TV is your opinion I guess. A lot of people thought it looked pretty cool.
