With today's result I see a chance that ISU gets put in Portland for the first round. That's less than a 4 hour drive for me. For those who have gone, what's the best way to buy NCAA Tourney tickets? Scalp with cash outside the venue? Ticketmaster resale? Other? My biggest concern is getting scammed by a fake ticket. But I also don't have a ton to spend on a ticket, so looking for methods that are more likely to get a good price. TIA!

I am not a seasoned NCAA tournament goer by any chance, but I’ve probably been to a handful of ISU tournament games in the past 10-12 years. I’ve always bought them on ticket sites like stubhub etc.

I bought four 2nd round tickets in StL a couple days ago. Am hoping we are sent there and win our 1st game. That seemed highly likely before today :(

You could do the same for Portland. They have standard (not resale) tickets available $150. Resell if we don't end up there.

do ticket prices increase a lot after matchups and locations are released? I wouldn't think so because there are an equal number of people selling theirs as well as those that want to buy.

I have no idea. For me it will depend a bit on game times too because I'm trying to avoid spending money on a hotel. I'm not poor but I'm broke and cheap.

Sites still have non-resale tickets available, so those will disappear immediately after the brackets are released. It seems like the better seats (all resale) are already pricey.

are non resale tickets cheaper? Is that the reason people make a distinction between non resale and tickets that people are reselling?

Before the bracket release, yes. You'd be crazy to resell tickets now for less than you paid for them without extenuating circumstances.

Being in Portland should keep ticket prices down - even if Gonzaga is in the pod. IMO, your best option is to buy on the Secondary Market. I would not buy ahead of time unless you are willing to go even if the Cyclones do not end up there. That's the crap-shoot part of it. However, once the selections are made, the prices will adjust as people who gambled and lost start selling. If you don't have a preferred Secondary Markey account, you should probably set one up, and you can track tickets. The good thing is that you can literally buy up until an hour or so before a game, and the ticket transition is usually very smooth. Good luck!

Why do you think Portland, swapping with Gonzaga? If we fall to a three I see Oklahoma City then Houston to St Louis. Maybe Buffalo worst case scenario.

In my opinion, the secondary market all depends on whom gets placed in the region. We've bought tickets to the last three Sweet Sixteen trips. Two of them bought through Iowa State, and then the one in Chicago where Gonzaga was also playing where ISU lost to UVA a family member's good friend was a bigger donor for Gonzaga so we got tickets in the Gonzaga's allotment down low. The Chicago and New York markets were hot tickets because of whom else got placed there - NY had UCONN with us.

But, I have watched the secondary market for those ISU venues (as a few friends joined us and I was looking for them) and what I noticed is that the ticket prices will stay higher right now, and generally come down, unless high demand teams get placed there. In my opinion, now is not the time to buy Portland (generally speaking and painting with a broad brush here) even if you could foresee that ISU would be placed there. Waiting to see what happens is generally best for secondary market value and hope Gonzaga and some unusual draw like a lower seed St. Mary's (I guess), or someone else doesn't get placed there. I think that region will probably have some cheaper tickets though. There just aren't a lot of close teams and the pacific northwest doesn't have tremendous turnout for college hoops generally.

Anyway, my recommendation is to wait and buy through a verified third-party NCAA approved reseller until the games are announced. You'd probably be competing with Cyclone fans, but not a ton relatively are going to travel there.

I already booked hotel and tee times for St Louis already - was really counting on Iowa State being down there. Maybe pull off some magic tonight!

Almost bought tickets after the Houston game - glad I waited.

I'm kind of the same way. Having the Cyclones in Milwaukee twice in the last 4 years has been great. 80 minute drive and no hotels required. I'd pay just about anything for Cyclone sweet 16/elite 8 tickets at the United Center this year, because no hotels and only 1/2 hour of driving

I will add, I bought my Milwaukee tickets last year the second locations/times were announced. Prices went up quickly only 30 minutes later, once all the fanbases figured things out (Milwaukee had ISU, Illinois, and Kentucky)

1st and 2nd Round tickets are relatively easy and painless.
However, Sweet 16 tickets can cost a pretty penny.
Two different animals.

No idea, just figuring ISU is likely to be moved far away from Iowa. And it would be our luck to put us in the Pacific time zone when 3 recent, poor performances were all out this way.
