Thank you for the recommendations. Flying Mango looks interesting but they don't appear to be open for lunch. It would be an great option since I grew up on 42nd and Hickman along time ago. It was a DeCarlo's pizza when I last was in the area to visit the parents. I'll run with your feedback.

DeCarlo's was the best pizza place in DSM. Mr. DeCarlo drove a tank in WWII and had his memorabilia in the restaurant.

Short Es is good, too, but they also have limited hours. Only open for weekday lunch W-Fri from 11-2 - might not work for a late lunch.

They've seemed to have some wacky ass hours for as long as I can remember. I've really liked it everytime I've went, but I did one time have the same issue with them being closed. Next time, I'll check.

Non-related to Short E's, but one big pet peeve I have is getting somewhere and seeing a sign on the door that says "Closed for Private event". There are a few places in Des Moines that are notorious for this. Instead of checking their FB, X, and Maps before I go, I just stop going. The last place was Beer Styles in WDM on a Friday.

The Flame Taqueria is really good. There's also Greenbriar right across the street.
