Tang gonna Tang

Because if Tang doesn't agree to a lower buyout settlement, his only recourse is to sue KState, and then he risks the court system awarding him nothing at all plus having to pay expensive legal bills for a civil trial.

On the other hand, his civil trial could result in KState having to pay him the full $18 million plus all of his legal fees.

Which option would you take, let's say a $9 million settlement to just go away quietly or a long, expensive, and messy civil trial that will result in you being awarded $0 to $18 million?

This is easy for me to say, but I think I'd call KState's bluff and take them to court.

The guy already has his millions and any lawyer worth his weight should be able to destroy Gene Taylor on this one.

The fact that they are going back to his Tuesday comments as reason and they couldn't fire him until after the game on Saturday because Taylor wasn't in town should make this one very easy.

Tang will have the support of a lot of coaches on trying to win this case because if he loses it (or settles) it basically warrents the buy out clause worthless going forward.

No way Tang gets full buyout. If he sues, and wins a judgment, his lawyer gets a third. If he sues and negotiates, his lawyer gets a third. He might as well skip the lawyer and just sit down with the AD. He’s probably end up with more money.

Idk, hoping this one goes far in the judicial process, the Tang could be pretty entertaining in a courtroom I imagine. Whose side will the sword be entered as evidence to support?

I dont know. I saw they got at least some form of timeout, but not sure if total ban or what.
Any idea why Surly was banned? My recollection was that Surly, like most on here, was an unapologetic fan of his favorite team and had the ability of get under the skin of our fans. I agree Surly was over the top on evaluation of KSU players particularly the Nebbie QB transfer and diminutive running back combo that were the next big thing in his view. But I enjoyed his commentary and back and forth.

Obviously Tang will settle for the 15 million he would have been paid had they just waited until May, and K-State will count that as a win. (I.e "Saving" the university $3 million).

The bigger deal is the contract language of the next guy they (or anyone) hires. "Excuse seeking" language will be buttoned up. KState will hurt its reputation as a good faith employer if they arent careful. The ADs press conference suggests that they wont be careful.

The good news for them is that Tang developed a reputation as a hypocrite, a liar and a drama queen, so likely wont poison their own well as badly as TT football did with Leach.

He can be awarded his full payout plus his legal expenses.

This. Who would want to work for that AD? And the NIL situation is likely to be different with the incoming guy too. It’s a bottom tier P5 job now IMO.

I think Tang will also want to avoid the possibility, even if unlikely, of being fired for cause. That sounds like something you don't want on your record.

@IowaSTATCyclone is spot on there. As much as I dislike him, I don't think Tang has done anything wrong here that rises to the level of being fired for cause. Seems like the spygate nonsense and bizarre press conference behavior was fine until he started losing more than they'd like. Even pursuing that seems like a bad look to prospective coaches out there.

“That athletic director is embarrassing for what he is trying to do,” Greenberg said on SportsCenter. “What did (Tang) actually say right there? He said, we’re going to hold our players to her standard. The way they played was unacceptable. They didn’t compete, they didn’t play hard. We’re going to practice at six o’clock tomorrow morning, because we’re going to fix this problem. Yeah, Jerome Tang made some mistakes in terms of maybe the players that he brought into the program, because they’re not winning enough, sure, but let me tell you something.

“If Jerome Tang, say, wanted to take the UCLA job. He has a buyout. He’d have to pay. You know what? K-State, you made a bad decision in your mind. All right, they’re not winning enough games. Just say he’s not winning enough games. We need to make a change, but to try to dispute and try to create some type of narrative that he didn’t fulfill his contract, that is absolutely embarrassing.”

Even if Tang settles out of court, I’m guessing any settlement will specifically enjoin K State from ever referring to it as “for cause”. He could probably argue that they’ve already caused reputational damage (beyond what his own idiocy caused) just by the AD referring to it as for cause.

Isn't likely to happen, but it would be hilarious if a court awarded Tang his full payout plus his legal expenses, so instead of paying Tang $18 million Kansas State University would have to pay him around $24 million. Would serve them right.

Horrible look for KSU. It’s hard to argue they had cause to fire him AND were going to allow him to finish out the season. What a **** show.

*coincidentally this is cause to fire the AD.
