*** Official #2 Houston vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I said in some other thread that a split between Saturday would be great, obviously pulling off the win tonight would be a lot of fun.

I think Houston's been kinda coasting the last two games so I expect them to be tightened up tonight.

Apollo to Houston, we have a problem. We gotta have this one to have any chance at a conf. championship. They are in the driver's seat. Win it, we have a fighting chance.
Also, this weekend is setup like a Final 4 (I wish the Final Four could be @ Hilton!). Saturday-Monday playing two Top 10 teams to win it all. Not saying ISU will be in the Final Four - if they win this game, but if they do win this game and make the Final Four - they can mentally go back to this weekend for spiritual nourishment. Let's Go State!

Thanks Rulzzz!
Besides the players and coaches, 2 big factors will be the refs and the crowd. How the game is officiated will impact both teams. There could be a bunch of guys in foul trouble and a lot of FTs.
If the crowd is like Saturday, advantage Cyclones.
Those with weak hearts might want to watch a recording tomorrow.
Cyclones 76
Cougars 75
Milan fade-away at the buzzer.
Agree

Your “lots of free throws” makes me nervous. I agree on the potential quantity.
But, we seemingly are lousy are shooting them / ranked about #300 in the nation.
Free throws could cost us this game if we do not improve.

From what I can tell JJ and Lipsey lead the team in FTs attempted and are 5% (JJ) and 10% (Lipsey) below last season and I'd wonder how much it improves the overall team's % if they both got back to that, and how many more points/game that adds.

Aside from our game the slate is stinky doodoo. Going to be a lot of eye balls on this one.
That's the point of Big Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday are the big slates, Monday gets two big games. Except the ACC sucks now, so it's 1.

We don't have today's AP Poll yet, but just trying to think where this game fits in historically.

In recent (past 30 years) I found 6 examples of top 10 matchups in Hilton. I really doubt there were many before that considering ISU's history.

#7 ISU beat #6 KU in 2001
#9 ISU beat #7 Baylor in 2014
#8 ISU lost to #1 Baylor in 2022
#6 ISU beat #5 Marquette in 2024
#2 ISU beat #9 KU in 2025
#6 ISU beat #9 KU in 2026

ISU is 5-1 in these games. 4/6 have been under TJ.

Could one argue tonight is the biggest game in Hilton history?

They must be kicking themselves for that abomination of a performance against TCU. This game would have been for first place if they had merely not completely crapped the bed against TCU. Still a big game but could have been so much bigger. Regardless, just win baby

I am mostly a big advocate of WAB (Wins Above Bubble) in college basketball, but the fact that a home win against Baylor is roughly equal to the home win against KU, and Houston is BAD!

Thankfully it's just a key data point, in a larger data set.
