NASCAR announced changes to their Championship Format:

  • The field sizes for The Chase in each series remain the same — the top 16 drivers in the Cup Series, 12 in O’Reilly and 10 in Trucks — but all drivers qualify based on regular-season points. The “win-and-you’re-in” rule that provided regular-season winners with automatic playoff berths is no more.
  • Race winners now collect 55 points, a 15-point increase over the previous points system. Points awards for all other positions and stage results remain the same, but bankable playoff points are no longer part of the format.
  • Points will be reset for each series’ Chase field with a 25-point premium awarded to the regular-season champion. Top seeds will start The Chase with 2,100 points, 2,075 for the second seed and 2,065 for the third, with a five-point drop for each seed after.
  • The Cup Series’ Chase spans the final 10 races of the season, with nine Chase races for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and seven in the Craftsman Truck Series.
  • The driver with the most points at the end of the season will be the series champion.

Watching it now, I'm just north of Bristol Va. Been driving in this crap since yesterday afternoon. Snow, heavy fog, sleet and rain.
 
Take a shot every time Blaney, Berry, or Cindric have been in a crash.
 
Kind of a farce, overall. There were moments of decent racing, but these tiny tracks don't produce good racing. Noy counting yellow laps sounds good until the race takes forever to complete and the cars are running out of fuel. They should stay in the Sunbelt. The NASCAR corporate guys are always hunting spectacle rather than actual racing.
 
It was a weird race all around. The LCQ was good then the main was follow the leader until the rain hit. The racing got better on the wet tires but they wouldn't stop wrecking each other.

I have no idea why Nascar stopped them from putting the slicks on at the end when the track had mostly dried up

Especially if they called a fuel stop. Give the teams the option. I gave up on it after they switched channels. It just wasn't worth trying o find it. I didn't watch the Masked Singer either. Seems like a stupid show.

FYI Daytona 500 moved up an hour tomorrow to try and get the race done before the forecasted rain moves in:

 
These next gen cars have just ruined “plate” racing. Everyone in fuel saving mode until the last 20 laps. They’re running slower than 1 car qualifying speeds
