*** Official #2 IOWA STATE vs Cincinnati Game(Day) Thread ***

The biggest difference/issue is that Cinci took EIGHTEEN more shots than us. Couple that with 20 points off turnovers and you don’t stand a chance.

100% agree. But the poster said that they got insanely hot from 3 as the reason we lost. Not even close. We lost because of turnovers and rebounding.

We got an average game from Cinci and almost lost by double digits.

For sure. But it is a trend. I'm stealing this from the 247 board, but.....

Last year we lost 4 of 6 starting on Jan 18th
In 2024, we lost 2 of the first 4 in January
In 2023, we lost 6 of 9 starting January 14th
In 2022, we lost 9 of 12 starting January 1st

I think we are a better team than the previous few years. But we've got to figure out a way to not fall apart in January.

To be fair, my guess is most teams lose games in January. But I think we'd like to be in the lost 2 of 6 or lost 3 of 9.

All you have to do against ISU's defense is not panic when we slap the trap or double team on you... and pass over it. If a team can do that... our defense is atrocious.

Yes, why can’t the staff see this.
We have the right defense in place in terms of scheme. Sure there are situations that have been a problem. Its these long stretches on offense without a basket. We need a PG who can take the ball to the ******* rack with authority. We have one. Let him do it. And it's not Lipsey

I noticed at the Oklahoma State game that there was quite a bit of hero ball trying to make SC plays. Got away with that at home. Basically, I think the team might have lost a little focus of what got them to where they are.

We do well against the teams like Baylor because their players feel like they can take it to us on their own. The problem is when teams know they just have to pass the ball around to get a good shot, no matter who takes it.

Arizona walked into UCF and punched UCF in the mouth, that’s what good teams do, unlike us because we are not a good team
Punch a team in the mouth... and then keep the foot on their throat. This team has no killer instinct at all... non existent.

Toure was the only one early on in the season that showed any kind of dog in them... with the flexing and stuff... loved it! But he's probably been told not to do that anymore.

Anyone think our traps and double teams are forcing us to br out of position on rebounds?

So simply this
Shooting percentage was same for both teams. ISU better from 3 than the bearcats
ISU scored more from the line than the bearcats.

The problem, bearcats got 18 more shots. 18!!

Think we need to run more offense through Milan. Post him off, off ball screens everywhere. Just have to have him touch it every single time down

Yes. And coupled with a lot of weird bounces that went right to a Cinci player, it hurt us big time. Made us get two-three stops instead of one.

If everyone wants to see how an actually good team is on the road, look at what Arizona is doing at UCF.

Serious question. Why do you INSIST on beating your negative drum EVERY time you get a chance. Who do you even cheer for? Serious question, because it definitely doesn't seem like the Cyclones.

This is obviously a team who can beat anyone or lose to anyone. So a first round loss to Furman is definitely in the cards. Maybe this is the wake up call they needed…
The last two teams have been long and athletic. That gives them the opportunity to pass over the double teams and affect our offense in the paint. You can beat those teams early in the season, when they aren’t prepared, and out of conference when not familiar. These are the lean times.
