From game preview on West Virginia homepage.

"Junior guard Gia Cooke leads the Mountaineers in scoring this season with 15.9 points per game. She has scored double figures in 14 contests and has scored 20+ points in five games. Cooke is the 10th leading scorer in the conference."

Guessing AJ would have had the assignment of guarding her. Might be a challenge for who gets that assignment.

"Wheeler has averaged nearly a double-double in her last 11 outings with 14 points and 9.1 rebounds. In December, she was the only player in the nation with 90+ points, 50+ rebounds and 15+ steals. She leads the Mountaineers on the glass with 7.4 rebounds per game and reached the 1,000 career rebound mark against Texas Tech."

Another assignment issue if Brown does not play or is sub-par, rebounding

They are definitely a matchup issue for us even if we were 100% healthy. But if we are hitting from the outside and take advantage of their propensity to foul…we can get this one. Crooks is going to really have to work in this one.

This is ridiculous - we’re the #11 ranked team in the country with a star studded roster playing at home versus an unranked opponent, and people are positioning us as the underdog. We’ve had plenty of time to prepare for this game and should prevail! Let’s go State!

Agree. This is a prime opportunity for one of bench players to force some future playing time
We need to replace rebounding and outside shooting - Aili Tanke won four state titles and shot 50% from three - come on down! Evangelia Paulk averaged a double double last season - probably not much help from three but can play D, board and score ten points on put-backs. Let’s go - next woman up!

It is not ridiculous at all for Acoustimac to suggest that the team will have to really work hard if they expect to win this game. WV is a team that will likely be ranked again before the end of the year. Sounds like the Clones will be without the services of Brown again. That's a major concern. This team has lost two in a row, one at home and one at Cincy which should really put the concern light on. The next two games after today are a major challenge as well. At CU & at OSU. CU only lost by four to Baylor in Waco. Remember the Baylor game? OSU is tough in Stillwater and was ranked and probably will be again. The reason so many teams are suddenly losing is because of two main factors. 1. They are no longer playing pushovers. 2. Injury bug and fatigue is setting in. Every conference game is crucial.

Not sure about star studded if Brown is unable to play. Good thing this is at home. And we are not really the #11 team in the country right now. Win or lose we are dropping in the polls, and should.

Brown had a good game at Morgantown last year with 19 PTS 7 REB 7 AST. The rest of the team did not play so great. Crooks was in foul trouble, 13 PTS 6 TO's. Wilson 7 TO's. Team 25 TO's. Tanke played 30 minutes and scored 10 and Harris had 12. AJ started and only played 9 minutes, can't remember why. She played 33 minutes next games so couldn't have been hurt.

WVU had an early 20-2 run and that was the game. And, no, we did not call a timeout in that run. Was game/set/match after that. Looking back at that old thread (it was quite the meltdown) I commented on how good WVU's half court defense was in limited us getting good looks from three.

One bonus is Quitterly graduated.

I hope we don’t try the same thing we’ve been doing on offense. We definitely need to utilize Crooks, but she needs to hit her FT. Also I hope Jada can take less shots and feel more free to pass.

I have a feeling we are going to see the same defense against us we’ve seen the last 2 games.

Which hopefully means we should be prepared.

Have you watched, Tanke is not the answer. She will still be last off the bench.

Wife and I talked on the way up about our chances. This is a badly wounded team right now. There were several “if’s” I me tioned

If Brown can play and be reasonably good (not like the Baylor game) it ups our chances tremendously

If Brown is severely limited or cannot play our chances drop to about 25% but…

If the offense shows motion and the guards hit their shots at a normal rate it pushes the needle in our favor

If WVU fouls us as much as they normally do AND we hit our free throws it also pushes the needle in our favor

There were discussions about which players would be on the floor and several combinations yield interesting possibilities. Paulo’s defense, bench scoring from Syd, Wilson and/or Tanke. Someone is going to have to step up and make a big contribution.
